HELP! 00 Maxima SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT! and odd stalling

Hi I need your help guys!! I have a 2000 Maxima GLE 5-speed with almost 60,000 miles on it. Just last week the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light came on. At around the same time I noticed a very odd problem with the car. Occasionally it has been stalling even when my foot is all the way down to the floor on the clutch pedal. This happens usually while I am waiting at the many Los Angeles red lights. It occurs whether or not the shifter is in gear or in neutral. And it was very occasional until today when the car stalled like 4 times on the way to work. I also noticed that the RPM meter, which usually hangs around 600 RPM when the car isn't accelerating, was dipping above and below.

Also: A month ago I had the clutch master and slave cylinders replaced because the clutch was acting up. I also had the EGR cleaned out because the car wasn't passing california emissions (it is a New England car).

so please help. I am going to have bring it to the dealership to repair on monday.

It's probebly your ignitioin coils... check the treads all the 2000 maximas have this problem. I am having this problem right now and it is not covered under warranty unless you have bumper to bumper. The dealership will try to charge you 600 to fix it too... does it feel like your abs is kicking back at you at red lights or at slow speeds?

its not the ABS

Thanks for your reply. It definitely isn't the ABS... I don't feel anything like that when I slow down.

My friend thinks its the clutch, but that thing was replaced when my father owned the car. This was his first manual tranny so he kinda f'ed it up a bit.

Yeh, definitely sounds like an ignition coil. I have a 2000 maxima and the same thing happened to me at about 57,000 miles. I went to a dealership in Baton Rouge, LA and they wanted to charge me $85 just to see what the check engine light meant... Went back to my small hometown dealer and got the check engine light resolved with a replaced ignition coil for $80... Can't beat the hometown dealers... big city dealerships charge too much.

any recommendations for LA repair shops?

Does anybody have any recommendations for Los Angeles area Nissan Repair shops I could take this to? There is a big dealer/repair in Universal City but those guys charge an arm and a leg.

Help.

I had the same problem...
The problem i had was i had a bad Mass air flow sensor...
i would stall out at everylight if i didn't keep my foot on the gas..
If i let go of the gas it would stall
most likely its the MAF
your car isn't miss fireing is it? If not its the MAF just do it yourself and save 500 bucks...becuase thats probably what the dealership is going to charge you

Check out http://autozone.com/servlet/UiBroke...on=viewHomePage . Check out the Store locator to find one in your area, call them to see if they can pull the code for free. Some do but some dont so it's best to call.

sup bro i went to gardena nissan. The people in universal nissan are usually too busy. But for mines it was the transmission problem and under the manufaturer warranty they fixed it for me with no charge. If i were i would just go to a mechanic that u know and see whats the problem. And if its something covered by the warranty just go to the stealer. I got a 2000 max also. I havent had any ignition coil problems yet but my transmission did go out it was so bad i couldnt even go in reverse. Hope it goes well for u
