Why would you want the GXE trim if you are not buying a double din head unit?

This is how they come from the factory, GXEs. The pocket under the radio is removable via the screws that hold it to the radio brackets

Yes, just ask for a 00-01 Maxima center vent piece, tell them its for a GXE so it will come with the radio bezzel. The GXEs with auto trannies could have the premium audio found on the SEs, which looks like the Bose unit but it aint. The cars with that style head unit have diff center vents, they don't have the bezzel around the radio like the GXE. The pocket is also avalible from Nissan, its the same pocket as my 91 Sentra, my 93 G20 etc. Nissan has used this radio pocket since the 90s. Call up DaveB at South Point Nissan and ask for the GXE dash trim piece and the pocket, he should stock that stuff I think.

Then if we have the GXE trim, I have one like your's BlackbirdVQ, is it still possible to put a double din deck into the GXE trim?? Cuz I think the double din looks better and was actually going to go get one in a month or so.

Yes, double din head unit will fit in just great. I have gauges to put into mine there, just don't have the time to actually install em.

Is there a size difference between 5gen GXE kit and 5.5gen GXE kit? Is the hole bigger than the other?

All 02-03 GXEs have the big radio, which requires the 00-01 GXE single din radio dash trim. Like I said GXE with auto tranny could have the big radio from the factory only with the 1K dollar convinence package that also added alloy wheels, power seats, AM/FM, CD, Tape radio w/6 speakers, pop up center console. This package was only avalible to the automatic GXEs. 5spds where stuck with 4 speaker cassette tape player, and little pocket below the radio. 2001 GXE 5spds where only avalible in white or black, only options where InCabin filter, mud guards and floor mats. Automatics could be had in all the other colors that the SE, and GLE where produced with. This is what makes the GXEs so much better base vehicles to modify, lighter and cheaper ! unless U really don't like black or white :P

So, people who are getting double din head units installed on their cars, are they using 5gen GXE kit or 5.5gen GXE kit?

5th gen GXE kit, 5.5 Gen is same as the 00-01 SE or GLE, radio face is pretty similar.

vents are part of the whole assembly on the GXE, on the SE and GLE the vents are separate from the radio.

No, thats the Aftermarket METRA kit. GXE one is totally different, this would work for someone who has CF on the vents, as the aftermarket one just covers the area of where the radio used to reside. I have a GXE Maxima, if you haven't noticed. My car came with that GXE kit pictured up top, I just added in my own Alpine system to the car to repleace the crappy tape player. Very few Auto GXEs had this kit, all 01 5spd GXEs had this.

Make sure you get the GXE kit, but instead of the "standard" pocket, tell the dealer you want the pocket from the 1999 Maxima (which has a door on it, and actually costs less to boot!)

Call Dave Burnette, he will know what you want....

I'd like to jump in with a question. I just bought a single Din dask kit for a 02 SE from Crutchfield My radio is removable (Kenwood Echelon) which means I need room to slide it to the left about an 1/8". The dask kit I bought doesn't allow for movement and the radio sits flush to the dash. Does anyone know if the single Din GXE dask kii with the vents, for the 01 model, would work for me? I guess I need my radio to stick out from the dash kit.

So how much does the GXE Kit with the 99 Door cost?

Also, is DaveB still the guy to call up for this kind of thing?

Thanks,
- Zack

Thanks,

But I was interested in the GXE Trim with the door. How much does that kit cost? I think it may have a better look than an aftermarket kit.
