Y pipe or the headers?

Ok please inform me... budget y pipe or the headers for my car? I have read many things on this board at different posts I don't know what is true or not. Budget Y-pipe good gains and no noise correct???? If so where can I buy this. Also what headers are available for our cars and what type of gains am I looking at... does anyone have just the budget y pipe that could give thier experience? Also I read that if I buy the headers I get the y pipe at the bottom anyways?

both current header makes (cattman & hotshot) come with the y pipe. just about any brand y pipe is the bang for the buck besides nitrous. a y pipe is a fairly straight install but the headers are a good bit more intensive. i got lucky and got an early batch of hotshot headers and they were easier than the current model.
i had a cattman y pipe before my headers and there are definetely more gains with the headers but you are looking at more money for the product and install if you plan on having someone do it for you.
gains with a y pipe typically range from 10-12hp depending on the car's condition, transmission, etc. headers for 2k have not been dynoed any if at all but i would guess and say more along the lines of 20-22. 2k2 have gained around 30 whp from headers so im sure our gain would be less but still substancial. if you do buy the y pipe and wanted headers later, the y pipe would be obsolete as it will not bolt up to the shorty part of headers.

How much power did you get outta your headers and y-pipe, was wondering what kind of results i would get outta my AE?

i have yet to dyno with headers. i am in the process of picking up some new wheels and a testpipe. i should be able to dyno shortly after and i will post up then. my last dyno should be posted in that forum but i found a rather significant leak in the exhaust manifold that the y pipe left behind shortly after that dyno.

So where are some places I can look at some ypipes and some headers. I also saw a bpipe what is that? Any sites would be helpful. Do the headers really offer 20-22hp over just the 10 for the ypipe?

great diagram!

the bpipe and the muffler are already "free flowing" correct? I just need to concentrate on the headers and/or ypipe for max performance correct? Also are the headers and/or ypipe just as quiet as stock, and please where are cheap sites to buy and compare the ypipes and headers?

you have to understand. if you get headers you get a y pipe with it as a kit. so if you deside to get headers is a header/y pipe combo. you can get the y pipe itself though.

try looking for a cattman set up......

I forgot to mention that I also have the extended 3 year gold warranty from Toyota that I got when I bought my car used. Would the headers or the ypipe alone make my warranty void? This would be a show stopper right there unfortuntley.

You Will Be able to Hear The Y pipe in the car because it sits below you, And you will definitaly hear the headers, If you want your car to sound closer to stock then get just the y pipe, but in the long run if you choose to want headers, your going to have to sale ur y pipe. So take the time to think about Noise, money, time and what you really want....

I think I will just get the y pipe... does anyone know for sure with just a y pipe that it will not void my warranty. Also I was looking a budget. is there any difference mainly in the sound between them. Also best for the price, gains, etc...

this has been discussed many times in many threads. if ur trying to save money go for the y pipe. u will notcie the most gains thru headers however because that comes with headers+y pipe and frees up the exhaust quite a bit more than just a y-pipe.

WOW I didn't think I would have to pay 825 for decent headers that will void my warranty... I guess I am going to just go with the ypipe. Does anyone else just have only the ypipe and if you do please let me know how loud it is and how noticible the gains feel. Noise is a major factor to me as I want to sound as stock as possible until WOT... Any numbers or any information would help. I was told budget is a good pipe and good on price as well? Anyone else have budget or any other kind of ypipe pleae tell me about it.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ht=header+dyno check this dyno. cattman shows a 30whp gain on a 2k2. i have not seen any dynos on hotshot but ppl are claiming a good 20whp from what i've heard. also the cattman seems to be an easy install compared to the hotshot which some ppl are having trouble with fitment.

headers will not automatically void any warranty. lets say an o2 sensor dies and you go in with either an aftermarket y pipe or headers. they will not cover the repair and can revoke that portion of the warranty. a dealership cannot legally just void a warranty because you have headers. take a look at my cardomain page for all the things that i have had covered under warranty then all the mods that i had at different which i did not bother to remove when it was brought in.
a y pipe alone with a stock exhaust will slightly change the tone but its almost unnoticeable in the cabin. if you went with a straight through aftermarket muffler along with the y pipe then its going to get pretty loud.

I already made the decision that I am getting just the y pipe. Now I want different options on brands and where to buy them from. What are my options now that I decided to go with the y pipe? I looked at a cattman one but other talk about budget being the same just cheaper. I would like to know what everyone has to say on brands, prices, and performance...

i only have experience with the cattman y pipe. budget is cheaper but i have seen a few people mention fitment issues. perhaps a budget owner could comment more. i had my cattman on for close to 2 years then sold it on the org and it is still trouble free as far as i know. as far as performance, you will get very similar results from any brand. within 2-3hp of each other as long as the install is done properly. you can check out cattman.com, budgetexhaust.com, stillen.com & warpspeedperformance.com.
