Yeap ,you want to change it to a clear one right. Welcome to the club.I done this wihle ago .I follow someone write-up here on the org ,but i end up breaking it,because it was conected from the millde with something i dont know what?.

It was PITA .too much grinding to make room for the new one ,and you have to drill a hole for the wire.

If you want to have the clear one really bad .You have to break it ,because it wont comes out.

i installed my clear brake light with no problems at all. one of the easiest installs i've done. the oem light came right out once i removed the screws - not sure about the problem you're having. you def don't need to break it to get it out though. make sure you disconnect the wire harness - that might be your problem.

nyautostyle - it was $25 + shipping, but i seem to remember that shipping was a lot....i think it was an extra $10 or something crazy like that.

ticko - i really don't remember having that problem. i just went to look at my oem light. make sure you are pulling out on the light and not down. there is a wire harness towards the left of the light, a clip next to that, and there is an unused screw hole in the middle. you will need to get all three of those things out from the spoiler before it will tilt down. just try pulling it out from the spoiler as much as you can and then it should be all right.

not sure what you mean. the wire harness is connected to the brake light and runs into the spoiler. just pull the brake light straight out towards you. that should give you enough room to disconnect the harness.

makavelisk - i got it from electrodyne.cc looks like the price has gone up a few bucks since i bought mine though....here's a link to the one you need

Do they have them in the original red color? If not, does the GEN 5 3rd taillight fit in the GEN 4 spoiler? If so would any of you like to sell your OEM light? Mine is out and the dealer is expensive.

Thanks

i ended up breaking my stock 3rd light off because i couldn't get a screwdriver in there to get all the screws out. unless you're really attached to the stock light, just break it off and don't worry about it.

i think i'm the only person who didn't destory their oem light and take off their spoiler to do this mod! there was nothing else holding mine in besides the two screws on either side - sorry i can't be of more help.

mu max - the oem red brake light is about 15" - 16" long....if that fits into your spoiler, i'd consider selling you mine - make me an offer! also - make sure that the wire harnesses are the same and will fit together.

Could it be that you got a 5.5 gen and they have the 5th gen? Maybe spoilers are different?

I break it .Just how did you do it.

But the result with the new one makes me happy ,and forget that i break it.

BTW, dont use silcone to hold it in place.I used 3M double side tape it will hold it much better, you can count on me on this.

i replaced my spoiler brake light about a year ago because water got inside the oem light assembly. i bought a stock resemblence....not the clear ricer looking kind. I used a vice-grip screw driver to unscrew the light and a flat screwdriver to pry the light off the spoiler b/c of the sticky silicone. I snipped the wires and used those wire shrinking plastic tubes to re-seal the wiring.simple red/black wiring. I used silicone all around the tip of the light before i installed it. Works great so far. *knock on wood*

any Q's let me know.

OKay, does anyone know what would cause my 3rd break light not to use. I'm assuming it's the fuse, but what fuse controls this light?

So far i don't have any problem ,and yes the hole is exposed ,but like i said no problem here .Its been 6 month since i did it.

You can put tape in there to cover it .I would use elc tape to cover it.
