Lound whining sound ONLY when cold?

Engine bay, rpm dependent sound, ie gets louder with RPM.

Sounds pretty much like an old power steering pump whine, but not sure.

Anyone have/fix this?

There is a whining sound that comes from intakes if you have an aftermarket one.

I believe so...or maybe towards the back more.

I'm going to change the oil this weekend and poke around to see what I can find. I'll also dump/flush the power steering to see it that helps.

my ps pump whines first thing in the morn when its very cold, but if it sits still until it's warm it doesn't, only when i have to move it before it wants to be haha. GMs saginaw pumps had this for years, they called it morning sickness actually. anyway it's usually if not always because the belt is slipping because the pump is hard to turn while the oil is cold and heavy. Tightening the belt slightly may help, if it turns out to be the ps, but you don't want to go too tight either. And yeah my intake whines, like a turbo spooling from 2500-4000. It's probably because of the screen on the MAF.

Odd as it sounds i had a whining problem with my old dodge; it needed a trans fluid change and new filter.

some people describe noises differently than others, you sure its not the famous belt adjuster for the A/C, alternator belt ? I just did my PS flush with some Redline Sythetic PS fluid, took me whole 10 seconds to flush it all out. I removed the hose from the PS pump return line, and just turned the car on, and kept on adding fluid in till the same color stuff was coming out.

Could be, I have no idea, other then it sounds like an old power steering pump that's been cranked all the way like on my '93 Sentra. However, this noise is only when the car is just started and as RPMs increase it gets louder.

I hope it's something like the pulley tensioner.

What have you all checked through already? I'm curious as to what it is also.

I have this problem in the mornings and when i get in my car after 6 hours in school. Someone told me i needed a new belt so i think thats what my problem is, and also when i drive through a puddle of water the belt squeals. A friend said the belt can't be tightened b/c there is already a self-tensioner. After lots of belt dressing i guess i will just get two new belts at courtesy nissan for $120 installed.
