i read somewhere here that you can't bake them. The "glue" used to bond lens and body isnt heat sensitive. I think other things would melt before the glue would. So instead of ruining a good pair i dremeled them open, wasnt too hard. just took my time, went slow. Its important that you pick a line to dremel and stick to it. Hope this helps

I didn't even dremel mine, used the stock hole, and painted away. No modification whatsoever.

you dont have led boards inside that required opening the lens, that was why i had to open mine up.

Just for future reference, don't get the regular red in testors, get the hot rod red... Mine came out just a little too light with the regular red.

I cant imagine its illegal, my 2000 GLE has all red tail lights, and plus, stuff only becomes illegal once you get caught , so just avoid cops like the plague

In the US it's fine. It's just in a few other countries where amber taillight signals are required. Manufacturers just end up making them all the same way to save $$ in the manufacturing process. This is why for the most part you see amber tails on imports.

they have to be cut. I have been waiting to do mine for months, but I am waiting for someone to make a good how too and some good advice.

so ANYONE with pics and a overview, please leave it here for many of us.

I plan on painting the inside silver area gloss black to match my car, and paint the amber red to match the brake light.
