Daytime running lights stopped working

I have a Max 2001 SE and recently the daytime running lights have stopped working. On Auto the head lights are on, but no tail lights. On Full all seems to work fine. Any suggestions on what may need to be replaced ?

I don't know your description is not clear...On auto you will have DRL's in the day then everything will turn on at night. If this is not the case the first thing to check would be the DRL fuse.

in some cases such as the use of Daytime Running Lights

Since 1991 The government has made it mandatory for automakers and dealers of import cars include day time running lights (DRL). the headlight comes on automatically when you start the car. Only the head;ights are on for improved visibility.

No canadian maximas are not different. What E55AMG is trying to say is, you should ask this same question in canadian regional forum as well because you might have more people giving you more solutions to your problem.

Once the E-brake is down, in the day the headlights will be on, but they are not bright. Then at night you have your regular setup....

DRL do NOT activate the tailights so you will just get reduced brightness headlights all the time until it is dark auto will turn all the lights on.

The DRL uses your hugh beam and very low voltage. So if your high and low beam work...then it might be the DRL module that has failed. Although there is no TSB/recall on this, Nissan Canada knows of this and I would suggest you get it fixed asap before they start complaining that you are out of warranty.

Canadian Maxima is different

Thanks for advice so far. It is true the Canadian version of the Max is slightly different as the DRL are alway on. However, when on AUTO (which I leave on always) it appears that at night the head lights are on but the tail lights are not. I will also post on Canadian forum.

Passenger side in front of the Strut tower. Black rectangular box. Needs to be removed, open case, resolder the bad connections, reassemble.

Same location on almost every single Nissan product

bad solders are an infamous problem for these modules, don't be shocked if you find the one you pull at the junkyard is also bad.

It's good that you fixed your car. Read the dates on the posts, George.
