Rough shifts between 2nd and 3rd gear, is it my tranny?
I'm just getting used to the car, its been then a week of owning it. But ive noticed every time that b/w second and third the car shifts hard, makes like a clunk almost. Could it me be my tranny going? any thoughts?

No, it's just Nissan. Welcome to the wonderful world of the VQ mated to not so wonderful Nissan trannies... The only way to get a smooth shifting trannie is to get a Bimmer (or an S2000 as some will say). Hey, at least our trannies are not granading like the Z guys'...
p.s. mine does it too (third in my 5 spd is just awful). Synthetic gear oil (Redline MT-90) makes it just a little better, but in no way smooth.

I always felt that the in my 4th gen had a good tranny. that was part of the reason o got the 5th gen. BTW mine is an automatic , so this 2-3 hard shift is normal? you think redline a/T might help?

me too...
I've got an '02 with 51k miles on her now. It's an auto and I've only had the car for about three thousand miles (since late October), but it's been doing the hard 2nd-3rd shift ever since I got it. And I've read multiple times on here that others have the same situation, and it's just how the tranny is. I'm gonna get mine flushed and serviced soon, though. I don't usually drive too hard, so I'm not going to do the VB mod or anything. (Even though I really don't know what it does, I know it's expensive.)

That is actually a good idea I had not thought of.. My Max shifts rough as well. Although that 3rd gear...Mmmmm boy is that a fun passing gear.
I run Synthetic oil...I think it makes difference in HP.
