Max HP. I dunno. You might be able to get about 500 on the stock block if you boost (Turbo or SC) I believe the stock HP is like 255.

Leave it to me to get a newbie to consider boost though.

Stock horsepower is rated at 255 for the 3.5L fifth gen Maxima. That's a measurement at the crank, though. You lose a little power through the drivetrain, so by the time the power reaches the wheels, it's always less than the rated horsepower. How much power you're actually getting at the wheels depends on whether you're in a manual or an auto (autos lose more). You can free up some of the lost horsepower with a few modifications, but you'll never get it all back. You can't defy the laws of physics.

Anyway, I know how you feel. Lots of people who drive a Maxima for the first time are impressed with its feeling of power. I guess it's because Nissan tends to build torquey engines. The feeling of power is especially pronounced if you came to your Max after driving a 4cyl or a lesser 6cyl.

The best thing you can do is read read read. Posting questions that have been asked/answered is going to get you flamed pretty quick.

If you want to search you can donate
https://maxima.org/modules.php?name=donate

or you can use "poor man's search"
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=368622 (read that thread)

or you can learn just as much (probably more, actually) by following my sig, then reading titles going back a few pages.

enjoy your car, and maxima.org

The fastest way to more power in the 5.5 gen is a set of headers (about 825 bucks + install = 20 more hp) + intake (with headers = 2-3). After that, you're talking major mods. about 600 bucks will get you NOS and 100+ hp, about 2-3 grand will get you a supercharger (same results as NOS, but pwr all the time). My advice: invest in tires and suspension. Any more power and you won't be able to hook up with the stock suspension. Get either the Faulkens or Micheline Pilot Sport A/S's for rubber. the Pilots are an arm and a leg, but they hold well. The Faulkens work about as well for straight line, but have a softer sidewall. A front strut tower brace is a cheap mod for slight gains in the twisties. Sadly, there are no chips for our cars yet, but the other mods listed will give you the results you're looking for.

Yeah, it's probably a good to have some idea of minor things like engine size & power and how many doors the car has BEFORE you buy a car.

Oh crap, did I actually say that?!? Sorry about that, I was thinking of what a supercharger would ACTUALLY be worth, not what they'd charge. My bad.

I thoguht TS had an ECU, but it's been proven not to work with autos;, besides the higher rev cut.
