Chips

I currently own a 2001 Maxima and have been looking around at mods, and did a search for chips, unfortunatly I did not find much, so had a few questions I was hoping I could get answered.

1. What is the best chip for a 2001 Maxima and how much of a gain am I looking at HP/Torque wise?

2. Where would I find a chip for a 2001 Maxima?

3. Does anyone have any experience with any chips made for Maxima's?

Thanks, Derek

This is the best chip:

To the best of my knowledge, the 5th gen Maxima doesn't have a 'chip' that is readily programmed or swapped for performance gains. A group of guys have been working with Technosquare for over a year on getting an ECU reprogramming exchange going but it hasn't happened yet. JWT doesn't have one for our cars. I think Technosquare has one for the 6th gen maximas. 5th gen has butkis.

There are a lot of threads with information and discussions on performance upgrades. Search around. For power, best bang for buck is y-pipe. A refined power upgrade is stillen s/c kit. For occaisional use, nitrous is good. And to be king of your high school, junior college or race track; you can go turbo while earning credits towards your aeronautical engineering degree.

what you should do is remove your ecu like the how-to, pull out the harness with it, cut it, splice it to your computer's mobo, and flash it yourself!!!!!

mhadford, I envy your car. I cannot imagine the feeling of a SC on an already outstanding motor. I bet you rip up some people that think they are hot crap.

We got chips, but none that will give us gains. The only chips we have are those that should only be used in conjuction with headers; for air-flow adjustment, etc etc.

The 5th gen Maxima ECU can be reflashed by a company like JWT (it was not easy for them to figure out the code since it has 32 bit encryption). There is no "chip" that you can just add on to piggyback on the stock ECU (like the VW guys).

So JWT chip will provide how much hp/tq to a 5th gen with CAI and exhaust. Iam looking to chip mine but i don't know where to look!

You can probably run a Greddy Emanage Ultimate or Blue + ignition harness to tune timing and A/F, also get past rev limiter. It will take splicing wires into your harness.

Combined with Y-pipe, intake, exhaust (or cutout) you can make some nice power being able to advance timing and tune A/F precisely.
