Pre-Cat replacement Aftermarket or OEM
Hi fellow Maxima Enthus,
My 2K maxima is giving me so much headache these days, I recently had the tranny replaced because of the bad solenoids, ignition coils replaced and now the precat is acting up giving me P0430 code. I had the codes pulled and a friend even helped me see if I have the most recent ECU program on there.
I finally got a confirm that I will need to replace the precat and that 1 is about 60+% out and the other is half way through it. Here's a few questions for those who had these problems and to everyone any recommendations:
1) OEM parts 2 pre cat about 600 each and 4 sensors for about 140 = 1800
2) aftermarket parts (midas quotes) 1000 for the 2 precat and 100 each for the senors = 1500 and midas says they'll recalibrate my car with the timing and everything electrical diagonostics and will charge me a total of 3 hrs just to install the precats.
What would you guys do?
Would you trust Midas?
How about after market parts? OEM or aftermarket?
Please advise. Thanks Everyone for their input.
-Mike

midas cant adjust timing or any other parameter on your car. it requires a consult 2 which only nissan/infiniti dealers have. if you could let me know which precat has failed, i could recommend an aftermarket y pipe that will remove one of the precats. if you are a fed spec maxima, it will remove both precats and you will nothing to worry about. however, if you are cali spec then it will remove only 1 precat so it matters which failed. you should still be able to pass emissions with no problem as long as the car is warmed up.
