is there a adjustment on the steering rack??

my car feels offley twitchy. it has a slight vibration that the stealership says doesnt exist. i know i probably need to get an alignment but i be lowering within the month a don t want to do it twice. the car feels like it is loose. the steering that is. i had my tires balanced they are cooper lifeliners. they check out ok. it just a wierd feeling like i have to always give the steering wheel input even on a straight road. kinda wandering. nothing in the front end is loose though. i have no play in the wheels, so im writng bearings off. i thought it could be the struts being worn. but i havent pulled them out yet and there not leaking. its kinda pising me off cause im very mechanically inclined and do most my own work and i cant figure this one out. hope fully its just the alignment. maybe the toe is allite off. i dont know. well if anyone can help let me know what you think. thanks

If they are anything like tha Falken 512s, my guess is that the Cooper's sidewalls may be too soft for your liking. Go to a Cooper dealer and see if they let you check out an unmounted tire (Lifeliner of course). See if their sidewalls feel like bicycle tires.

I think the stealer is right, for a change.

Bet it's the tires. You pretty much describe how my car felt on the 512s. Driving a straight line was nearly impossible without steering input and it was really interesting when passing semis on windy days.

oh good......someone with the same problem

just bought my maxima thursday, and it shakes too. Pulls to the right and sometimes it seems as if the steering is turning left then right if I let go of the wheel. Its weird, I thought maybe it was from sitting at the lot and getting flat spots on the tires, but now I'm thinking not. Please let me know how the different wheels and tires feel. Maybe I can do the same if I can find someone I know with a maxima. hmmmmmmm

I have a solution. Put on the G35 wheels, drive fast and far away, relocate you place of residence a state over or so, ignore your friend if he tries to contact you. And lastly, enjoy your G35 wheels.

I bet it's alignment, or maybe the tires. You'd be surprised how a good alignment feels even if one of your wheels is SLIGHTLY out of spec. I think our cars are highly sensitive to alignment woes, probably due to the lower profile tires we have compared to a lot of other vehicles. I always laugh when I take mine in and they say "Well it was barely out of alignment..." and I'm like "Yeah, I noticed. I can feel the slightest alignment change really well on this vehicle."

Sounds like tires. I've had several experiences where changing tires changed the whole personality of a vehicle. Sometimes it was for the better and sometimes not.

Before I traded in my 95 SE I put some cheaper Coopers on it. It drove exactly as you describe. Sort of floaty while driving straight and very unpredictable in the corners.

I think if you swap wheels with your buddy you'll notice a huge improvement. As others have said, these cars are very sensitive to tires.

You may also find it useful to check out the wheel and tire forum on this website.

I know over the last year, my steering rack has a lot more slop in it than it did. It's very noticable.
