"Klunk" in auto transmission

Folks: Just got an automatic 2k2 after years with a 5-speed. My question is about how the tranny downshifts from 4th to 3rd. I do a lot of in-town driving, and I feel a distint "klunk" in the gas pedal when the transmission downshifts (and it downshifts quite a bit). Is this normal? My wife has a Honda 6 cylinder with auto transmission and hers is smooth as silk. I know our 6-cylinder is pretty powerful, but is this the way the Maxima transmissions act, or am I in for some transmission work?

If it happens around 40 MPH it's normal....all of them seem to do it.

Mine does not do it. I have never felt any type of "klunk" in my auto. It shifts up and down smoothly.

Mine either. Smooth as silk and always with Amsoil ATF fluid.

My auto tranny does not do this very often, but I have felt a slight thump on downshifting once or twice.

could be the apply of a clutch or band in the tranny, and vibration is coming through your gas pedal. Right now I wouldnt be too concerned, just make sure it doesnt get worse. I dont have a 2000+ yet so i never felt it so make a good diag
