I try to consistently shift at 4K, but I'm not sure if that's the optimum RPM. What have other 2K 5spd drivers found? Should I be shifting at higher RPM's, or are there different shift points for Maximum performance?

Shift at redline in all gears on the 2k+. Peak Hp is right at redline.

If you aren't trying to race or get the maximum amount of power, I think you're doing ok... Anywhere between 3-4k for normal driving seems to work well.

shifting

What negative effect will shifting at redline have on my car?

none. If you miss the shift, you will hit fuel cut which will prevent you from damaging your engine.

It is really very similar to "punching it" in an auto. Only in the auto, the transmission takes care of the shifting and you never worry about it.

Obviously, I'm not advocating that your shift point for normal driving be red-line. I don't have a particular shift point for normal driving - just whatever the circumstances dictate acceleration wise. The faster I want to accellerate, the longer I leave it in each gear - simple as that.

About the best you can ever do is shift just as the engine bounces off the limiter.

Over reving an engine consistantly will reduce the life of the engine but will increase the smiles of the driver.

shifting

What do you mean by bounces off the limiter? What impact does all the high engine revving do to my clutch life and performance?

Put your car in neutral and nail the gas. You will see the enginge bounce. Basically it's when the gas is cut off to the engine because you hit the limit. If you are fast enough you get off the gas as it's comming down, shift and get back on the gas.
