Pre-wiring for options not installed...
Pre-wiring for options not installed...
Hey guys,
I've heard in some places that our cars are pre-wired for some of the options we may not have. Does anybody know if there is any truth to this? I'm mainly concerned with the heated steering wheel. Anybody know if it's prewired for that? I've heard that it is prewired for heated seats, so I guess there is a chance the same applies to the steering wheel.

Yeah most of the 5th gen maximas have the wiring in them for heated seats. Now some of 5.5th gen maxima have the wiring for the heated side mirrors and some for the heated steering wheel but its not as prevalant as the heated seats.
For example. My car had all the wiring for the heated seats. ( just need to buy seat elements and switches) and for the heated sideview mirrors. But no prewiring for the heated steering wheel.

how much did all that cost you ? how hard is it to put the heating elements into the seats? I'm lookin to do the same with my non-heat leathers.

Try living in jersey.....hehehe j/k
To answer an earlier question, the piece that I bought was just the wheel itself, no airbag assembly, no audio controls. However, there is nothing wrong with the airbag and audio controls on my current wheel, so this shouldn't make a difference. And as far as just tapping in for the heated wheel, I would rather it be wired the correct way because both the switch and the connecter inside the steering wheel have harness connectors and because I want the wheel to work as it was designed (ie. come on for half an hour then shut off).
I still have yet to check if it's prewired or not for the heated wheel. Will update when I find out...

Hey Kevin,
I got it from a fellow 'Orger who had it on his totalled car. Was able to get him down to $70 after he originally wanted more than twice that.
I think I got a pretty good deal, now it's just a matter of seeing if it will actually be installed fairly painlessly. If I decide not to install it, I'll probably resell it on here for the same price. But this is just speculation, so don't anybody start making me offers. (Unless they're REALLY good!)

Sorry I havent replied in awhile. The heated seats on my 2k2 were fairly easy to install about 3 hours. I found the heated elements from a junked 2k3 maxima and the switches were with it on ebay. I bought them for about 20 or 40 dollars. shipped. its tough getting the leather off the seat. The rings holding the leather onto the metal frame are hard to get to but i got it with needloes(spelling) and pliers. My wiring was all there and under the center console was two plugs of different colors one for the passenger and one for the drivers seat. and there was wiring that was attached to my power seat wiring harness,
I have had an extensive talk with Dave B the parts guy about the steerign wheel heat. Certain cars had a wiring harness built into it for the heated steering wheels and not. There is no way to tell but to open up the steering column and find out. if u can see your wiring harness number u can write that down and call Dave B up and he might be able to tell you if u have the right harness. If not you can still do it. I dont see why you can not install it if you dont have the harness. Just find a wire that supplies power and run it to the switch and then to the steering wheel. Good luck.

Bringing back the dead here, huh?
After having the steering wheel around for a while, I gave up on installing it because I wanted to do it the proper way, and that required some extra harnesses and crap I didn't have and seemed like a lot of work. I sold it to somebody else back in March or April, I don't recall exactly. I also don't recall his Org name unfortunately. I'm not sure if he ever installed it.
