FIRST LOOK! SSR/SFR Turbo Kit for 5th Gen

Well, we've been waiting for it and now here it is... The first pics of SSR/SFR's Turbo kit for the 5th/5.5th Gen Maximas...

Enjoy!

Pic of one of the handmade headers:

Pic of the intercooler - Endcaps are welded on by hand at SFR:

Pic of the intercooler installed - had to trim a little off of the bottom plastic grill, as you can see... Looks SICK!

Pic of the front header, from the bottom, up:

Pic of the rear header, from the bottom, up - yes, that's Matt Blehms' Lower Tie Bar Brace in the pic...

Pic of the crosspipe, I believe. This is the piping that will join the 2 headers, then merge into the turbo:

Pic of the turbo (T04E) - as you can see, the turbo is mounted to the case of the transmission:

Last pic of the turbo - Look at that thing! A thing of beauty!

Also, it will depend on the options you want... Like Jet-Hot thermal coating on the pipes, full ball-bearing turbo or not, piggyback ECU needed or if you have your own, etc...

For pricing, you'll need to contact them directly...

I'm having my pipes thermal coated, instead of polished... Tim was going to try to get the piping sent out Thursday/Friday. It takes a week for the turnaround, so hopefully he'll have them back by the end of next week...

I'm hoping that we can dyno tune/test it the week of Feb 21st or so...

SFR doesn't want to push any more than about 460hp at the crank... I've read on a bunch of the 350Z forums, that this is about the most you can get out of a stock VQ35 engine - safely... As you may or may not know, the connecting rods on the VQ35 block are the weak point and they have a tendancy to break at higher hp levels..

My goal, and I've told Tim this, is 400hp at the wheel... he feels that 6-6.5 lbs of boost is the maximum we can run...

Is the only thing you're gonna do internally is rod bolts?
I can't wait to see some numbers!

Since the tranny for a 6 speed is going to be different than an automatic tranny, I'm sure that there would have to be changes made.

Obviously the turbo wouldn't bolt right up to an auto without modifications...

If anyone who has an automatic is serious about getting the kit, then you should contact Tim and talk to him about what it would involve for an auto...

I'm not doing any internal work...

That's why we're only boosting a maximum of 6-6.5 lbs...

If I did have internal work done, who knows how much boost I could get..

I will wait for more pics as it comes to decide. Maybe when done you or they could take some measurements around areas. I can still swap to 5spd but kinda wanna stick with the BP auto I've been saving for.

Are these pics of the 00-01 verion or the 02-03 version? Can we see the differences in the 2 kits?

I thought alot of people were having trouble with detonation due to bad timing caused by the stubborn 350z's ecu

Hey guys, glad your liking the progress on our kit so far. Well it's looking to be finished very soon, for those of you that have been e-mailing, calling and IMng the numbers will be out soon! But since the kit is going to be just like the Altima kit, you can expect around the 348WHP it produced @ 5.5PSI.

Also for pricing, we are going to get rid of alot of the unnecessary items, as well as have a good introductory offer that will save some money as well.

curious, if the headers from a 5.5 be swapped into a 3.0, then the header application might be able to be used from this 3.5 turbo system to a 3.0, and if the space allows it, then shouldn't this kit be almost bolt on for the 3.0? Im not really familiar with the physical dimensions of the 3.5 w/ tranny vs 3.0 w/ tranny so just tryin to throw around some ideas for us 3.0 guys. I would think that we would just have to get a smaller intercooler or something.

Looks very good so far. I'm stoked to see that there has been significant progress made, as I was starting to wonder if we were running out of FI road for the 3.5's. Interested in seeing more pictures, reviews, items included in the complete setup, dyno and track times, but more importantly the pricing which will be a big factor. Thanks to the ones associated, this is something I would consider a great accomplishment for us. Let 'er rip!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing the dyno numbers, but I'm much more interested in seeing some times and traps. Anybody know what the times are for this turbo on an Altima?

I am guessing low 13's high 12's on street tires and maybe mid to low 12's with slicks maybe even less ....that is going to be so sick....I can't wait to see some dyno numbers!!

edit:my times might be a little high but I can't imagine a maxima running 11's....it blows my mind...damn that would be cool.....

alright I went to alitmas.net I checked around from what I can tell a 95 (I think) with a turbo kit don't kno which one ran a 13.7 @102 and those are 4 bangers so we might be in the 11's...I couldn't find any newer altimas when I was looking but I didn't go all that deep in to the site....I was hoping they would have a 1/4 times section like we do but they don't but here is a link to the 13.7 altima he talking about a dyno he did so here it is...

Link

This is what he has under the hood I just found it

The new one? Perhaps, i think sr20den would have no problem roasting the GT if you saw his video.

I think it's kind of a silly question, time will tell... Yet i don't even have to imagine (magazine racing sure) that at 400 whp in a much lighter car, honda eater will eat a stock GT for lunch... Yea and a few 350z's or anything else that has a foot high wing as an appetizer.

as far as the automatics go, does anyone, especially SSR and SFR, think that an auto with the VB mod and a tranny cooler could handle this much power? maybe the next stage up of maximum tunings vb mod?
