my car shut down on the highway and is turning over but will not start.
we checked it out and there is no electricity to the spark plugs, but lots of gas.

my nissan tech said that it may be my crank sensor?

I received a recall over 6 months ago for the crank sensor. I never brought my car in though. Got tired of going back for things to fix.

I'm not sure what years this covers, but here's some info..

2002 Nissan Maxima
Campaign Number: 03V455000 Date: 2003-Nov-17

Component: Engine And Engine Cooling

Defect Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE CIRCUIT BOARD FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR MAY HAVE AN IMPROPER SOLDER JOINT DUE TO SOLDER DEFORMATION CAUSED BY HEAT STRESS ACCELERATED BY THE EXISTENCE OF FLUX RESIDUE DURING THE SOLDERING PROCESS.

Consequence Summary: THIS COULD CAUSE THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON, CREATE A NO START CONDITION, CAUSE REDUCED ENGINE POWER, OR CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

Corrective Summary: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CRANK POSITION SENSORS. VEHICLES INVOLVED IN A PREVIOUS RECALL CAMPAIGN, 01V357, ARE ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS NEW CAMPAIGN. THE REPLACEMENT SENSORS USED IN THAT CAMPAIGN ARE ALSO AFFECTED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON DECEMBER 22, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261 OR INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200.

the recall is for 5.5 gen maxima's only.

it could be the crank sensor or the cam positioning sensor...i had the same thing happen...it was the cam positioning sensor, but then the car died again, and the wire to the crank sensor had become disconnected...this is a ***** of a problem that the dealer rarely knows what to do.
