Smoked taillights?

Where can I find smoked tail lights for my GXE? Or do I need to make them myself?

There is a How-To in the Stickies to DIY:

http://www.kevinfisher.net/web_serve...light-mod.html

Unless ya talkin about something different....

Sorry, I don't know where to buy smoked tails except for the cleared out, illegal ones that Custom Maxima sells...

That is kinda what I am talking about, but I want to have my tailights completely black. Not just outlined in black. Do you know if this is legal?

Federal standards say they need to reflect red and/or amber and illuminate red, so unless you're talkin about tinting (which is borderline or completely illegal, depending on how dark the tint), then it does sound illegal to me.

As long as the red and amber lights can be seen at least 500ft away they are fine

It took 5 years to get that added insight. Was it worth the wait?

We'll never know.

WELL, to answer your question. The easy way to do blacked tails is go to advanced auto parts and buy a can of tint spray. Take out your tails and spray thin layers until you get them as dark as you want. Heres how mine turned out:

Dude, you're not answering anyone's question. The OP hasn't posted on the Org since August 2005.

He probably drives a minivan now.

Damn, Hotshot. Good one. Obviously you don't need me to be witty when you got it going on.

(I kind of miss my minivan sometimes. I admit it.)

Anyway, let's sit back and watch the noobs post responses with failed grammar to a dead question that needs no answer. Yeah... good fun.

Nice use of whitespace, Moncef.

So what the heck is going on with the Org in the last few weeks? It's become really boring. Does this happen every Winter?

And yeah, I actually liked my Minivan. We had a 2003 Mazda MPV for four years. Small and (relatively) nimble, but could still seat 6 with luggage.

Yeah, It'd be nice to be able to request certain threads for deletion. I can't think of any specific ones now, but I know I have searched for things, and happened upon threads/posts containing a question and most of the answers are "search".

just to clean out some clutter.

Winter really does kill the .org!

Hey, at least on the bright side, people are actually using the search on the .org. Only thing is, they find these old-azz threads from YEARS ago. Hah, w/e I guess.

See, now I didn't know that. I wasn't really sensitive to org dynamics until well after I joined; and that was only Feb '09. But it makes sense. Maybe with the holidays, too, normal routines are shook up and there's less org activity.

What we need is another crackerjack thread about a eBay FSTB that turns your 4-door into a supercar. Those are always fun.

Pretty sure the .org does clean out old threads from time to time. But at the same time, I don't mind having years-old threads around, just in case there's a mod I want to come back to later...

You just need to READ the dates on the posts before you post a reply.

Looks good on black or grey Maximas and the 2001's came that way so it is really a factory look.

Anyone ever considered baking and pulling apart the housings and applying nite shades to just the red lenses? Or painting the backing black kind of like people do with the headlights? I think it'd look a lot cleaner than just blacking out the chrome tails.

The plastic is fused with the lens so you would have to dremel around the edge to get inside. Can't bake our taillights to separate them.
