2K2 Max Se Idle speed adjustment Help

If anyone in the Northeast area NJ NY could help with the reprogram of my Idle speed. I have a 2k2 Max Se with JWT Pop charger. A few dealers have my number as well. As soon as I walk in they immediatly say they can not help me just beacuse of the intake I have and the fact I do not want to pay Dealer prices for car repairs. Thats why I go to Jeff (Max Tuning) for most repairs. The few dealers I've gone to are telling me that for some reason they can not adjust this setting on my car. Something is hanging it up from relearning this program. A little history first; Had spark plugs changed recently and car ran aweful. Went back 3 times till I read here to have Dealer increase my idle air speed a bit. While they were doing this I asked to have the timing bumped to 17 degrees. The car performed incredibly till just last week when check lite came on indicating engine misfire. I have 87K so I had Jeff at Max Tuning replace my coils and clean my throttle body. Now my idle speed is around 1,100 throwing a PO507 code. Jeff explained that the carbon around flap is now clean but the learning sequence will not allow the flap to fully close. I need someone who knows how to fix this issue through the consult II which only Dealers have unless someone here has one. I had the idle speed bumped up a little to compensate for a flutter at idle speed. Now I need to have it brought down after I had coils replaced but the few Dealers I've been going to don't have a clue. I need help asap it's my daily driver. Every suggestion welcome especially if you can steer me to someone with a consult II.

Well mine does the same thing. It's because the throttle body was cleaned. I still haven't been able to fix mine after quite some time.

I think P0507 is engine idle speed control.

CJLax..your IAC valve is probably gummed up like your throttle plate was (how bad was it?) and/or the PCM is unable to control the idle speed because the IAC valve has been moved to full extend or full retract by the PCM in an attempt to control the idle speed. In plain english it could be...... "bottomed out". I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that there is still a throttle stop screw on your '02 throttle body. Has anyone touched this screw previously?? The throttle plate should look like it is closed but it never "quite" is. This throttle stop/screw is CRITICAL to the idle operation on these cars and basically should never be disturbed. Also, when you clean the throttle body you have to be carefull not to contaminate the IAC valve.

The screw was never touched. I feel we did a good job cleaning this. I was just wondering if the fact that I had this adjusted through the consults to raise it will that be the cause why it is idleing to high? They can't figure why they can't adjust this parameter through the consults II program. We checked to see if the motor of the valve was the cause but it does open and close fully during test mode but won't fully close. It was explained that this valve adjusts as the carbon bulids up. Now that it's clean there is a slight opening. I thought that the car would readjust however no such luck. Again any one with a consults or workaround thanks

Yea. Sounds like if the idle was adjusted when the throttle body was gummed up the IAC may now in fact be "bottomed out". If everthing is nice and clean now, the IAC idle air counts need adjusting via Consult ll. This thing must have been really gummed up. Normally the system can handle minor changes to the intake system due to these kinds of things.

Consults II relearn

That sounds great however I've gone to one dealer and they say they can not change this parameter. When they do a run through or try a relearn it will not relearn. It is being hung up some where. If anyone had same experience and know of a work around it would be much appreciated. Gone back twice, same Dealer and they are stumped. Barrons in Glen Cove LI. I need a savy tech who won't blame it on the K&N pop charger. I just need this parameter lowered. That cel light is annoying.

Hi, did you ever get this idle problem solved on your car?

I cleaned my throttle body and IACV last weekend, and the idle speed is now high about 800-900 rpm, with occasional surging and P0505 IACV code :-(

OK I think I solved the problem with the P0505 code after cleaning the throttle body and IACV with throttle body cleaner. My car is a 2000 Maxima SE 5 spd with 112,000 miles on it.

What I think is happening is after cleaning the throttle body and IACV of all the gunk and carbon, the TB and IACV is flowing too much air, especially as it has 100,000+ miles on it and is worn. The ECU tries to shut off the excess air and drop the idle by closing the IACV and that puts it out of its expected range and it goes haywire with the surging up to 1500 rpm and throwing the P0505.

What I did was what is not recommended... I adjusted the idle stop screw to close the throttle butterfly slightly. I slackened the nut and turned the screw counterclockwise ONE turn. That was enough to bring the idle back down to a point that the IACV was not going haywire and not tripping the P0505 code anymore.

The car drives just fine now, idles around 700 rpm and does not surge up to 1500 rpm when stopping at a traffic light. I did try the Idle Air Volume Learn procedure a few times and it didn't seem to affect anything. But after getting the idle back down to 700 rpm or so I tried the IAVL procedure again and maybe it worked this time. When revving the engine under no load the RPMs fall down to 700 rpm nicely. When out driving, and clutching in to come to a stop, the RPMs fall down to about 1000-1100 rpm and then it comes down to the 700 within a few seconds, which I believe is normal and has been doing that since I bought the car a year ago.

I plan to adjust the TPS so that the Throttle Closed Sensor trips correctly. The good thing is that I have everything written down, I can easily go back to the factory settings by turning the idle screw exactly one turn clockwise, and I know where the TPS voltage should be at that setting.

Another note - I did try backing out the idle stop screw 1-1/2 turns and 1-1/4 turns and the throttle was closed so tightly at those settings that the vacuum from the engine would "suck" the butterfly shut and cause the throttle to stick. Oh, and the nut on the idle stop screw does not seem to be metric, the 5/16" fits much better than the expected 8mm.

My feeling is that the IACV is still flowing a bit too much air possibly because the pintle is worn but that should resolve itself once the carbon builds back up.
