drop or not?

2k2 SE 6spd MT

Several people have told me now that i have smaller rims (16s vs. OEM 17s) i should get new struts/springs.

Is this purely for aesthetics? (so my car won't look like a 4x4)
or
is there side effects to handling (or anything else for that matter) that would be solved by getting new springs/struts. i understand the benefits of dropping my car (handling, etc) but since i have RSB & FSTB installed I've been hesitating to drop, just because of $$ issues.

however, if it is necessary because of my new tires/wheels then i could shell it out.
what do you guys think?

DO the drop when you have the money.. it will help you a lot , actually it will change the way the car handles... but I'm plannig on doing it soon even though I have to use my money wisely.. just crashed the car , is in the shop as I write this and will not come back until the 11 of march..after that date I will decide if I do the drop
