Headers question

Looking at some headers for my 02. Ive done quite a few searches on this (im sure theres some thankful members) and I know that "Stealin" makes one and so does Cattman. Which is better? Also, I know they arent street legal, but is that really of concearn? are they loud or something? We got rid of the VET testing here, so I dont have to worry about that. I just want to free up some HP and im attempting to get everything from the intake to the muffler replaced. Any help from you all'z would be appreciated!!!!
thanx!!!

well, when I did my search earlier, everyone was complaining about the hotshot headers. I dont want them if everyone hates them. I know Cattman is great, but theyre more expensive then the Stillen ones!

www.jimwolftechnology.com - they have a special on HS headers right now for 529 shipped. I dunno WTF people are smoking with HS headers not fitting their cars. I had my headers ON my car in like less than 2 hours- and I had to remove AC from my car too ( I have a 3.0L where the O2 sensor hits the AC compressor ) which included a evacuation of R134a gas, and lines, compressor... I had everything pretty much done in less than 2 hours. My car is at the dealer right now- new 5spd tranny- warranty, and I can't make a sound clip. But the power is there over a Cattman Ypipe. I am shooting for 240+WHP NA from my 3.0L by next month...

Mike
just wondering why want to keep your car NA, especially with all the options available to you?

I'm using hotshot headers, and i agree they are fine, though this come from the earliest of batches, and this very well might not be helpful or relevant.
ALot of testimony here about later batches not fitting right, though, these are of course opinions.

STILLEN= NO, no no no. They are not an option, pretend you never heard they make headers for us, they are, were, all hype and junk, and never should be considered. You can either step up with extra money (though very justifiable) and go with cattman, or go with hotshot and maybe take a chance, though this is of course contreversial and you can be fine with them.

I say get cattman and not take a chance though.

Ill be ordering the Cattman full system from intake to muffler tip as soon as he has them available. He told me he was out of the headers at the moment.

For the 3.0 guys that had a Y-pipe then changed over to the headers did you see a big difference in power or just a little? I have been thinking of getting headers but if its only going to be a little power over my y-pipe then I mite not bother.

i noticed a good bit of difference from my cattman y to the hotshot headers. felt to pick up in every part of the band. i am planning to dyno soon but it will not be a direct comparison to my last with the y pipe because i have a new maf, lighter wheels, ac compressor bypassed and testpipe. there is a definite gain.

sloppyMax, I highly doubt AC bypass is going to gain any power. Its just a pulley spining and takes little power to turn it. I'm going to try a 3.5L AC comp bracket on my 3.0L to keep my AC. I will be redynoing my 3.0L soon also, and I feel power in every bit of the powerband vs my cattman Y.

i have no proof that it added any power but i did do it seperate of the others and it "felt" like better response down low. i just couldnt justify dynoing something that took 10 minutes. i just added it since it could be singled out as a change from my last dyno.

yep. the o2 fit in the bug but was rubbing agasint the compressor line. we kept it like for a while then we brainstorming and came up bending the angle of the bung enough where it would not damage the threads and would seat correctly.

There's a noticable power gain with the headers when compared to the y-pipe. There was a dyno on a 5.5 with just y-pipe and another dyno on a 5.5 with headers. I think there was around a 10 hp gain at some point in the powerband...dont remember where exactly.

Here's Fezzik's.... http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=341501

Btw, the gains of a y-pipe relative to headers in a 5th Gen is pretty different from a 5.5.... just wanted to point that out...

mjg- I'm trying to stay NA for pure fun, I'm not a big SC fan, and I don't like any of the turbo kits out there. I do have a few project Turbo cars already, Maxima will be one of them maybe in the future. I was going to produce a Maxima turbo kit over this winter, but my partner has departed to Iraq and yeah.... Right now I will be happy with 250WHP from my 3.0L NA.

That will be impressive, especially if you're not going to do a hybrid (3.0 + 3.5)

No Hybirds here, I'm going to try with my old but never tired lil 3.0. I think with the vast selection of 3.5L cams out now I should be able to hit that number with tuning. I have pretty much climaxed the Max modification department, just going to drive the wheels off it now. With the road racing season just around the corner I should have some nice high speed videos of my car around the track. I am still driving around with my VIAS disabled, new VIAS intake will be in this week sometime- waiting 2 months cause of back order.
