Question about changing brakes

I have had my 2000 SE for about a year and its time for brakes. I had it in for a new belt and asked for a quote to have the brakes done. Well lets just say I'm not a sucker. I know I can do it for 1/4 the cost I was just trying to be lazy. One thing they told me was that the front discs need to be turned because the car has ceramic pads and this would ensure proper braking. Well this would be my first Maxima and my first car with ceramic brake pads so I sure don't know if that was the truth or just another attempt to rape me like I was with the the coil packs.
