Performance Mods

I have owned my 2001 Maxima for a while now, and I have decided it is time to start upgrading it performance wise. I have basically $1000 what would you guys suggest to get me the most bang for my buck?

Thanks, Derek

Have ya done any research yet? Like reading the FAQS in the Stickies, searching through these forums to see what others have done, maybe also checking out the members pages on cardomain.com? Its kinda hard giving ya suggestions if we don't know what you've already considered and what ya know...

Start with a Y-pipe and go from there. Poor man's search is your friend.

The answers you're most likely to get, all of which are valid:

sarcastic/flaming: put a bunch of stickers on and a big wing.

serious: do some searches and see what other people have done. Not all performance mods are for all people. Also, "performance" is a pretty broad category. Are you looking for:
-speed performance
-accelleration performance
-braking performance
-ride performance
-handling performance

well...you get the picture. There are a ton of things available to do in terms of overall performance. But performance /= horsepower necessarily, remember that!!!!

You asking US what are the first things you should do is like you asking us "what should I name my firstborn child" or "what is my favorite color"....

I would go with "Ebenezer" and "Black" j/k

modding your car is a personalized experience, and not everyone likes every mod, even if it does "increase performance".....

you should put the $1000 in the bank and spend a few weeks researching parts, doing alot of reading on here, and figuring out "What is my ultimate goal for the car?" and "What KIND of performance am I looking for?"

Modding the car correctly is a series of incremental changes that add up to an entire "system"

For example: Suspension-wise, you might want to start with somthing basic, like a front strut tower brace. Then move on to a rear sway bar (which will make a bigger difference). Then move on to springs and struts (which will make a big difference). Then move on to more specialized suspension/handling upgrades like lower tie bars, poly bushings, and subframe connectors......

do one small step at a time to determing if you're "going in the right direction."

sorry to lecture, but too many people just go to Stillen.com or wherever and buy a bunch of stuff, having no idea what kind of effects these parts are going to have when combined with each other. Modding isn't all about dropping all your $$ up front on big stuff, it's all about spending wisely, reseraching carefully, and combining components for the end result you're looking for.

Good luck!

Irish - great answer to his post.

Badalia - take his advice and do some research first, you will be glad later on when you spent your money on what you really wanted/liked/chose to get.

Thanks guys I appericate the posts. I will begin looking tonight at some setups that other people have, as well as reading an extensive amount on some of the more popular mods.

Thanks, Derek
