i got a question, does any of you who own 5 gen maxima build after sept 28, 2000 have a problem with slow shifting between first to second gear?

I just got back from nissan again complaining that "long shift delay" for the second time. The first was about a week ago, and nissan changed the valve body and transmission fluid. But, it doesn't help even a bit. Even make it a lot worse for me to accelerate from 20-40mi/hr.

Today i asked them to check again since the VB that he changed doesn't help even a bit. Then he gave me a service bulletin print out with ref: NTB00-039D. It is writen that the applied dated is for vehicle built before sept 28, 2000. Mine was build on oct 19, 2000 according to him. So he can not do more than the VB that he gave me a week ago.

I need a clarification from you guys whether it is the correct information. My car shift very slow now from first gear to second at WOT.

You should do a search. I have a 2002 that had the same problem. I brought it to Nissan once and they took it out and said there was no problem. I went back and went for a drive with the Mechanic who said that there was a problem.

They replaced the Solenoids and some other smaller stuff. I have 47,000 on the car and I didn't pay a dime. I don't know if there is a TSB for the 2002, but it is covered under the Powertrain warranty so who cares..

Like I said above, there are tons of people that had the same problem, just do a seach.

My problem shift seems to be second to third, but either way, it's messy. Gotta take it in soon.

 

Same here... got new VB about 5k ago and the problem seems to be coming back. Thinking about taking it back for serivce but want to hear what other people have had done.

 

How many miles are on your car?

 

30K, it was doing this early in the mileage. Can't remember when, but then again it's only got 30K on it. 2-3 sounds odd... when manually shifting from 3-OD under heavy throttle the engine rpms rise between shifts. 2-3 shift if fine on my tranny. This topic has been around a few times with no hard and fast answer as to what to do. Any input on this topic from people with satisfactory dealer resolution would be appreciated.

 

Wonder if an aftermarket VB would help ... anyone?

 

Man that sucks that, at 25k, your tranny was already going. Nissan really should have buffed these things up a bit with the stronger engines. What sucks is that there will never be a satisfactory resolution. Under 60k miles, Nissan may do the valve body, or even the entire tranny. But eventually, you'll have the same problem again, and you'll be SOL. From 60k-200k miles, or however long the car lasts, you will need another 3 trannies! RIdiculous.

 

Unless you take it upon yourself and beef it up on your own.

 

Well that makes me feel much better... thanks.... lol j/k. I should have bought a 6-speed WHICH IS WHAT I WANTED IN THE FIRST PLACE, BUUUUT NOOOO... THE WIFE SAYS "WHAT ABOUT WHEN I DRIVE IT.... I CAN'T DRIVE A STICK" ARRRRRGGGHHHHH! I kick myself on regularly over this.

 

What is your suggestion to beef it up? I'm not really keen on paying $400 for a aftermarket VB for it to potentialy not help.

 

I'd rather pay that for piece of mind that they actually did change it.

Beef up is not ony the VB, it's the clutch packs and discs. A good rebuild kit from level 10 should do the trick.

 

Haha, sorry about that. When I said "you" I didn't mean you in particular. I mean, we're all screwed equally here (at least those of us with autos). Nissan is an equal opportunity money-pit manufacturer!

If they could only make their trannys as good as their engines.

 

i had the valve body done on my 00se and the problem wasnt cured i also had the tcm replaced. maybe thats it

 

i had my TCM reprogramed, fixed the problem right away...
