Maxima seats

hey guys,
i joined here a while ago when my GF got an 00 maxima SE in the metallic gray color and now shes lookin into doing a few things. weve already got the clear corners and xennon headlights and fog lights blinkers and every other bulb a pioneer head unit and some audiobahn subs in a bandpass box with a sony 1000w amp. she wants leather seats and i found some for a good price. i got a few questions tho, her car doesnt have the side airbags in the seats and the new seats do. under her current cloth, non power seats are the 2 plugs on each side jus zipped tied to the seat frames, are these the power plugs? if i dont hook up the air bag plugs on the new seat then they wont do anything correct? was the side airbags even an option in 00? the new seats are from and 03.

thnaks
mike

yes the side air bags were an option, starting in 99 i believe, as for those two cables under the seat one is probibly for power, the other for heat, i would think. youll be fine of nothing is connected. if you car did have side air bags however and they are not connected youll just the the air bag light on.

Is there a reason for going with all new seats instead of just installing leather seat covers from leatherseats.com, or some other company with a similar product?

Has anyone installed the leatherseats.com seats by themselves? Or do you recommend a professional installer? My factory seat finally got a tear and I'm contemplating replacing my leather. Or does anyone have any "quick fixes" for a tear.

yea theres is, besides the easiness of just a few bolts and a good price on leather seats out of a wrecked max, my GF is only about 5ft tall and needs the power seats so she can see better lol

as for those seat covers, i watched them recover seats like that on the show "TRUCKS" once and it looked like it would take a great deal of patiance to install them and maybe take a good half of the day...but nice quality for a good price

I have side Air bags in my '00 and I installed '01 seats. I think you may have problems with the '03 seats. Word on the street is that they take a digital input, where as the '00 takes analog. If that is not true, the you are all set. In fact, all the cables (heater, power seat and airbag) should be altready there. Good luck!

make sure the seats will work....5.5gens have different seats then the 5th gen

edit...just did a quick search and found that 01 to 03 seats will not work in a 00...the driver seat wiring is different.

can anyone else verify this?

i haerd that you can fit seats from lexus gs into a maxima...those are some sweet seats!!!

by the way, if you cant plug the 03 seat power cable into the 00 analog attachment, im sure you can get it done at most electronic shops, jusy make sure they dont rip u off.

I haven't, but I have heard of several members doing this themselves.

thats right the drivers power doesnt work for 5th gen seats....there are two people out there that have done this i think, one is living with it and the other, from what i've heard did somethin to modify and make it work? but that is just rumors.

my mechanic got my 01 seats to work both heated and power for both my 00 seats. The wiring harness for electric seats needs to be present on at least one seat. Dont know what modifications it took but said it was real simple. Pretty much plug-n-play but i'll get the details from him.
