I gotta agree with the others. The rims look nice, but those tires are a little narrow. Pretend this crudely drawn picture is a pic of one of your tires:

As you can see from this wonderful diagram (which is not drawn to scale, but you get the point), the number 215 in your tire size refers to the tread width of your tires. 215 is quite narrow for a Maxima. The stock 17'' wheels come with 225s on them. The fact that your tires are so narrow might be one reason why everybody thinks you need spacers to shove your wheels out farther.

If you want a low profile look, the second number is the important one. Stock tires for the 5th gen 17'' rims are 225/50/17. Your current tires are 215/40/18. As you can see, your current tires are lower profile tires than the stock ones, but they're also more narrow (less tread touching the ground). If you use a tire size calculator, you'll see that using a 215/40/18 tire will put your speedometer off by 4.2%. If you keep the profile (40) the same, but increase the tire width from 215 to 235, your car will look better and handle better, and your speedometer will only be off by 1.8%. If you bump the tire width up to 245 like some people have suggested, your speedometer will only be off by 0.5%.

Bottom line: 245/40/18 will keep the same profile you have now, but it will improve your car's looks and handling while maintaining your stock speedometer accuracy (not that the stock speedometer is a highly tuned scientific instrument, but it's nice to be able to look at it without having to perform calculations in your head to figure out how fast you're actually going).

The rims are sweet. Good choice. I have learned alot from this post thanks to the tire experts, Thank you!

I also agree with adding a spoiler, wax, and I would also add the factory mud flaps color matched to your car. It looks so plain with out the spoiler and the mud flaps.....looks too round. All else said though Excellent choice of rims.

what's also nice to know is that the 40 in your pic means that the sidewall is 40% of the tire width.

As said above - tire width is too small but they look great on the car.
Good luck and def get some other kind of locks on there.

correct....and if you really want a lower profile, even a 245/35/18 would be fine on an 18x8 rim.

as to clear sidemarkers .... on a dark colored car.

screw clear sidemarkers, you need to smoke the sidemarkers = will look much better on a dark colored car. clears are for light colored cars...

I wasn't going to go into this, but XGaSpAcHo is right. This is why increasing the tire width (the first number in the tire size) while leaving the sidewall height (the second number in the tire size) the same results in a different speedometer reading. On a 215/40/18 tire, the sidewall height is 40% of the tire width, which translates to 40% of 215. On a 245/40/18 tire, the sidewall height is still 40% of the tire width, but the tire width is larger, so you're looking at 40% of 245. Even though a 245/40 technically has a little more sidewall height than a 215/40, it's still a lower profile tire than the stock 225/50/17, and it will still look good.

The offset is way too high and the tires are too small. The style of the wheels looks great with the car though, spacers and new tires will fix everything.

Racertilthend: The place at which i bought these wheels and tires gave me a package deal the total that i paid for the eibch lowering kit wheels and tires plus labor was $1100. I wish I could tell you the price of just the wheels and tires but i dont know.
As far as me going with a wider tread tire thanks guys for all the info and the diagrams its really helped me understand a lot more about what all of this means i left a message for the guy who helped me out to see what it would take to get a wider tire on there.

what's the minimum offset we can use before we rub tires???
for comparison's sake, assume stock size tires on 17s.
