Since the 2002 Altimas are getting the 3.5 L 240 HP engine in them, does anyone think that the Maxima will get this possibly with 260 HP or even a V8??

Yeah, you're right. We were all newbies once, too (sometimes I still feel that way ).

 

Maybe since the Q45 is getting a new 340hp engine, so maybe the maxima will get the old Q45 engine with 270hp!

When i was lookin through car and driver one day it said the Max are getting more hp, but then the next year they are gonna be making them longer, weigh more.

 

I still say we need blown 454s in our cars.

 

He he, here's my chance to jump on this topic. I wonder how much the 240hp VQ option will cost on the new Altima? My guess is, that this will put the $tag in range with a Maxima and many people will go with the Maxima anyway.

 

I believe Altima 3.5 SE will land in the Maxima GXE price range for 2002. That will make the buyer choose from the fully optioned Altima or the basic Maxima. I still maintain there's a quality difference between the 2002 Altima and the Maxima. On the other hand I really like a fully optioned car. Each buyer will make their own choice based on their personal preference and the deal they can cut.

Personally, I expect Nissan to advertise the Altima 3.5 heavily but import few of them in 2002 (keeping prices up and conflicts with Maximas low). In 2003 when the 6th Gen Maxima hits dealer lots with more size, higher price points and more power (than the 260 hp 3.5 for 2002) the Altima with the 3.5 will be imported in mass quantities and may become available on more trim levels than the one trim level I expect them to offer it in for 2002.
