Spring Protector replacement proceedure?

Has anyone done this? I have never worked on a suspension before. I am tempted to go rent a spring compressor, jack the front of my car up so there is no load on the wheels, then compress the springs so I can replace and glue a new protector to both left & right front springs.

Will the spring deattach itself from the bottom plate as easily as I am thinking? What about from the top, I dont want to reseat this wrong

thanks in advance

Once you compress the springs you will be able to glue a new protector on without any problems, once you have put on the new protector just start to de-compress the springs and you will be fine. You don't even need to take off the top hat either.

cool,..I dont want to touch the top. I am just afraid that it would all disassemble or something while the spring is compressed.
