My car has what I would call a slippage or slow gear change under nearly all throttle conditions. It's been this way since new (Auguest 1999) and was made in between the dates.
I didn't think much of it till my son drove the car and my husband agreed with him that it's not normal. He said that the car magazines also noted how much slower the automatic transmission cars were (not that I care) but I'm concerned.

I want this Transmission TSB performed!
I bought my car at Classic Nissan in Mount Holly, NJ and
when I go in for service they drive the car and say it's normal or don't find it to match the condition.

Where can I get my car fixed without them verifying the conidtion exists, I don't think they know what they are looking for, or just don't want to admit the problem.

My car has 33,xxx+ miles and the warranty is soon up.
I don't wanna be sattled with a heavy repair bill
and would like my car to shift and perform at its best.

You will have(and need) a lot of time dealing with this problem since this is a Nissan, which means service is terrible. The transmission is covered up to 5 years 100,000km (60,000 miles?). Good luck.

A little tip that I have for you is to go and test drive with the mechanic. I wouldn't trust the mechanic would really test drive your car for the problem. I always think that they'll just go for a spin and come back and say there's nothing wrong with the car.

Does your car slip everytime under full thorttle? If not, a cold car with heavy loads would make it easier to slip.

Hope that helps.

Test Drives

I have read that to reproduce the problem, get the car on a hill and floor it and the 1-2 shift at about 42mph will produce the 1-2sec delayed shift if the car has the problem.
Like it will grab really hard and torque steer or jerk.

The dealer did test drive the car, and they didn't just take it for a spin, they drove it for 25 miles (odometer) Maybe they just took a long lunch. Who knows.

The dealer noted that I complained of the problem and kept a copy of the TSB on file, so if I got back again maybe they will fix it, else I'll go to Peruzzi Nissan in PA.

I've seen some posts by people unhappy with Classic Nissan
in both Mount Holly, NJ and Turnersville, NJ.

have a tech sits next to ya in a test drive...show them the problem right there...

they dont wanna do it...fine, go to another dealer.
they wanna do it, even better....'cause they will send u an evaluation right after the service....where their performance appraisal is based on....screw them up on that one.

usually I watch them do my work....otherwise I write down the milage...make sure they wont have too much fun with my car.

WOW! They really said it is normal? Are they nuts? When I had the A/T slippage, HELL, my Toyota Corolla shifts better than the MAX! And now since they fixed it...well..SMOOTH!

Change dealer!

Evaluation? I never recieved one. Maybe my Nissan dealer knows that I'm not going to write nice things on there so decided not to give me one.

It took me a whole year to convice them that my car was slipping (I only took it in for oil change and stuff time).

BestyBluMax, Can you reproduce the symtom easily? If so, just tell the service rep to send a technican to test drive with you. Make sure it's YOU drive since you know how to reproduce the symtoms. If the technican says it's normal, then it's time to go to another dealer. Good luck.

Are you saying that after 36,000 miles I can still go to the dealer for the TSB and still have it repair (if lucky) under warranty. No $ out of my wallet?

So I can go to Arizona this weekend without rushing the TSB on my tranny and send it to the shop for the TSB when I get back under the powertrain warranty? Cool what a relief...fiddle sticks, there was probably no need for teh extended warranty then. Anyways thanks guys for clearing that up. I will read up on the warranty info when I get a chance. Take care.

I think NIssan sends it, not the dealer. That's how it works with Infiniti anyway.
