everyone around here with a 5th/5.5 gen is normally almost twice my age or more, always with family in the car. even the 5th gen that was lowered and semi-hooked up was bought by a middle aged lady who drives it around. so no, i dont wave. but if i saw a hooked up one, i would.

, but I'd probably throw them the if I knew them.

I might even do that to people that don't drive Maximas also.

acutally, it's a "country" thing....when I go down to my parents' place on the Northern Neck, everybody you pass waves at you, no matter what they or you are driving...it's called being "friendly"...something people up in this area don't know about...

the jeep wave isnt really a wave. you have your hand on the top of the steering wheel and you just raise your fingers.

Its not just a Jeep thing. VW beetle drivers gave each other waves in the 50s and 60s.

I dont -- along the same note as another poster already brought light to, it's not like a 5th or even a 5.5 gen Maxima is some semi-uncommon car. In fact, they're frigigng everywhere. Chances are if you wave at somebody, the 65 year old guy driving it is probably just going to think you flipped him off or something.

I wave whenever I see any generation Max SE driven by anyone other than Grandma or Grandpa. Around here (Central Coast of California), we have a bunch of bluehairs driving Maximas - there's even a lowered Maxima with LoPro wheels rolling around my town with a little old lady that never gets past second gear. Clearly, she bought it used! It's funny how many people have Maxima SEs that you'd think would be in a Camry, or at least in a GLE.

BTW - I'm another "Jeep Graduate" - I traded in my V8 Orvis Edition Grand Cherokee for my Maxima a year ago (happy birthday to my car!), and have never looked back. Having another SUV left in the garage helps of course. I had looked forward to being a Maxima owner for about 3 years prior to purchasing... I was right!

Anyway - I would and do definitely wave to anyone who looked like they'd understand why I was waving.

Not really. Maximas are pretty much in the same class, price-wise, as a Camry or Accord or what-have you, if you're looking for a car with more options and not a bone-dry one.

And SE models are the most common Maxima trim level. I don't find it all that surprising really, when I think about it.

That's my point exactly - given that they are in the same class, I would think that these folks would tend towards the more conservative styling and marketing image the Camry or Accord, rather the more aggressive styling and performance marketing focus that Nissan gives the Maxima. Sure, I can see a middle-aged guy in a Maxima trying to shift_reality, but that's a guy I'd wave to, 'cause he gets it. It's the 75 year old grandma that would look just right in a Camry that I can't figure out behind the wheel of a blackout-tinted Maxima with the spoiler and rim package. Nor the 90 year old guy around here who drives a Subaru WRX with 18" chrome and the biiiiiig aluminum spoiler. Don't these folks realize they look ridiculous?

Well Maxima tends to attract people with more "sporting" intentions then those cars and the people that buy those Cars and most of them hardly ever look at the Max when purchasing moreso the Altima. Also Camry in one year out sold the 5.0 gen in 3 years and 5.5 gens in total only make up less than half of one year of Camry or Accord sales. Max has always been a "tweaner Car" that offers more than Cam and Acc and is a good alternative to TL's etc. I get sick of seeing Acc and Cams because they simply are every where of every Gen. I do get alot of looks out of 5.5 genners and 00/01 SE drivers than the rest of the 5th gen clan. In my area 5.5 gens are few and far between.

No they dont. That wouldnt look "cool" and it would throw off their aerodynamics! They point all fingers to the ground and feel the air as if to say to the other cyclist, "I feel ya!"

In Miami if you aren't big (20" or better) you gets no love here! And there are a few Maxima's with big rims like my cousin with 22" on his 4th gen. Bottom line----not big, not noticed! I still have stocks on my 5th gen and only a few will wave. :attention

Does he drive over cars and smash them to? I think I saw it on Speed TV the show was called Monster Jam, that Max almost beat Grave Digger.

Call it what you want, "wave", or "pointing all fingers to the ground", motorcyclists do it b/c we respect each other. I love that about the motorcycle community. I don't get waves from everyone though. Usually the Harley guys don't wave b/c I ride a Honda , but I wave at them anyway.

...And it's technically a peace sign held out on a downward angle. Back on topic, I don't wave at other Maxima owners b/c they're all old people.

around here, its normal to wave at about everyone, I think Irish said it earlier though, country folk are a little more sociable. lol But I do try to wave at all the max's I see that aren't driven by grannies and gramps. More of a respect thing, I don't care of they are modded or not. Its still a cool car, plus, mine isn't modded that much anyway................yet.
