Engine Drive Belt Replacement

Hey Folks, need some help. I was trying to replace the engine belts on my 2002 3.5L Maxima. Not sure what the purpose of the Idler Pulley is and how to go about releasing the tension on this unit to replace the alternator/water pump/power steering belt, the thicker belt. I have no idea how to get at the A/C belt, the thinner. Any ideas or refrences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
wolfman

If its the same as the 2k, there is a screw on top of the pully that is used to "unlock" it then it will move up and down.

if it is the same procedure as the 00-01, then there is a link on HOW TOP, but I couldn't find it. I know it has to do with "MOTOVATE", I will do a search for you....

Search done

http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/500

http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/501

The instructions are for HOW to Change your Alt, but it will be the same.. to replace the belt

Good luck

Thanks a lot Lontar1 and theMax. That's exactly what I needed for the fat alternator belt replacement. The whole trick was loosen the idler pulley bolt as well. If anyone has similar info for the smaller power steering belt that would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
wolfman

Thanks theMax. I'll look for that bolt. If I can't find it I'll email you.
