Cattman Y pipe, possibly big problem

well, after many problems and annoyances, and lots of help from the writeups and Joel, my cattman y pipe is finally on. and sounds great! but one problem. one of the bolts that holds the pipe to the manifold snapped off...IN THE Y PIPE THREADS. looking at the front of the pipe, it is the one in the top left corner. the tip of the bolt broke off in the threading of the y pipe. the other 2 are in and tight, and there doesnt feel to be any exhaust leaking out, but this cant be good. we tried to drill it out with no success. my friends father and brother are gonna look for something tomorrow to try and drill it out. but do you guys have any suggestions? this really sucks

If some of the bolt is sticking out try a pair of vice grips. Those might help.

if you can get a welder in there, try welding a nut to the bolt that is stuck. not im possible, but not easy. drilling it would be your only choice. might have to remove the whole exhaust system.

That sucks man.... so you're saying that the bolt snapped after ya put the y-pipe in? I guess the only way now would be to drill....

Drill out and retap the hole. Hope you get that fixed, if you don't you can just send the y-pipe to me, and I'll junk it for you.

ha, "junk" it for me huh?

we didnt have a drill bit that would drill that out right at that moment. it isnt much, but its enuff to stop us from putting it in. any special drill bit i will need? titanium or something? its gotta be strong enuff to drill out that bolt, and i really dont know if we can drop the y pipe again, cuz some of those bolts were VERY difficult to get back on.

Sucks man. Just start with a small bit to get it started and gradually work your way up to a larger size. Good luck.

Although none of the bolts broke off, I do know that my shop (IMP of Clifton) had some problems aligning and mounting my Cattman Y-pipe to the manifold. Within a week after the install, the Y-pipe seperated from the manifold so I took it back to be looked at/fixed. This all happened a little over 1 year ago and hasnt been a problem since. But I'm fully prepared to change it back to stock if I have to.

Good luck KC.
