I unfortunately have the mid-grade sound system. I am upgrading the system, which includes by-passing the factory amp and installing an after-market amp. I don't know where the factory amp is located. If you have done this, or know where some instructions could be found, please repsond.

Thanks.

I think that the mid level audio system does not have an amp. Look in your trunk under the rear deck and see if you have a black box mounted towards the right side.

No, the non-bose system gets no amp... all power comes from the receiver. However, on the Bose system, there's one amp, as edadams stated, mounted under the deck on the right side...

Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong... but that's what I noticed after looking at the system.

This is correct, non-bose, no amps.

If there is no amp, that would be good. I remember reading at one time on Edmund's website that the mid-level system in the SE had a 120-watt amp powering the speakers. Edmunds has changed the format of its website since then and that information is no longer posted. Those of you saying there is no amp on the mid-grade system, are you sure?

I also need some instructions on removing the stock deck. I'm getting anxious to hook-up my 280-watt MTX and Rockford Fosgates.

If you've checked the bottom right deck and there is no small rectangular box with wire harnesses running to it, then there's no amp... and your "mid-level" system is powered by just the receiver... 40 Watts peak per channel... 4 channels.. hence, 120 Watts.

For instructions on removing the stock stereo, do a search for the dash removal thread...

I'm assuming you're swapping speakers too. If you're not swapping all speakers, you may have a problem if the stock speakers are rated at 1 Ohm impedance. Typical amps drive speakers rated at 2 or 4 Ohms. If the speakers impendance doesn't match the recommended amp value, then you may end up sending the amp to an early grave. You always want the speakers impedance to match or exceed the rating on the amp.
But keep in mind that with higher speaker impedance, the lower the overall volume.

good luck
