My dads best friend who is a GSM at the 2nd number one selling Nissan dealership in the U.S. told me that current 00' and 01' maximas will depreciate in blue book value in a couple of months when the NEW altima is out in stores. The reason for that, I don't know.

hmmm

.. I do not own a 5th gen, but when I come around here once in a while I catch the new Altima talk in at least 1 post.

Every cars value drops a little when a newer model is introduced or about to be...

Well...I look at it this way:

Buying a car is like buying a computer...as soon as you take it home...it has decreased in value or something betters is coming out already.

So I plan to do to my car what I do with my computers: upgrade!

it might be a little bit more expensive, but I have learned quite a bit building up computers...and I'm sure I'll learn even more "upgrading" my Max!

Cars tend to do that.

OH NO! Maxima's NEVER drop in price. I was shopping for my 2k and saw a 1990 on the lot that was still 30k

Cars tend to lose alot of value once they are driven off the lot.

Heavens! You mean this hunk of beautiful metal isn't going to make me rich in a few years???
And here I was planning to retire with the money I made off of selling my max.

Cars, like computers, are money pits for the rich. I didn't need a max, I wanted a max. As long as it doesn't cost me too much personal time over the next 10 years I'll feel I've gotten my money's worth no matter what the trade in value is when I get rid of it. I tend to give my old cars away for free anyway.

The 5th Gen Maxima is going to drop like a bomb, Nissan screwed up, the new Altima, Which in MY opinion looks a hell of a lot better than the Maxima, is going to have 240Hp, 3.5L V6 and going to be cheaper? O.k. then if the new 02' Maxima has 3.5L V6 with 260HP, still doesn't help the 5th gen with the 3.0L Bye bye resale value.

My .02 cents -

Check kbb.com and edmunds.com and see how well the Max holds it value!

To avoid all of this crap, why didn't Nissan just put the current 3.0L 222HP engine in the new Altima so that you guys wouldn't get leapfrogged like this and screwed on resale value, and then reserve the 3.5L engine for the Maxima - or at least put it off until the next generation Maxima??

This huuuuuuuggeee mid-cycle update that the Maxima is going to experience is the whole reason I didn't buy the car. It'll be great for people that can wait another year, but I had to buy this year and didn't buy a Maxima (one of my long-time favorite cars) because of all this.

So why is Nissan making such bold moves??

I know they want to move forward quickly and make lots of sales to become more financially stable, but they sure as hell are ****ing off a lot of Max owners...

...and keeping some (like me) away.

I thought you'd like that. I will have to get back to you on your current sig pic. My wife just delivered our baby at 18:49 tonight. I'm just home to get some stuff we'll need at the hospital... and of course to check what's going on on Maxima.org!

Later.
