Another Maxima

My mom test drove a 02 Maxima SE 6 speed and was wondering what issues they have

The dealership is asking 12 grand for it
has 50000 miles on and there is some paint chips here and there but is it worth the buy

she doesnt like the paint thats the only thing that is stopping her from buying it

if she doesnt buy it she will get a 04 Jeep GC which is 25 grand for it

Help me get her to buy the 02

yeah, their paint isnt very sturdy. But besides that i have not heard too many issues with the motor, trannys and what not. SOme people complain abotu the MAF, certain maximas do have that issue, especially if you place an aftermarket CAI or something along those lines. BUt man, that would be a very very nice buy for you and her haha.

I think that is a very fair price for a 6 spd 5.5 Gen. What options does it have? Is the 12 grand the negotiated price or the window sticker? If it's window, you can talk them down at least $1500.

12 grand from the dealer... sounds fishy for a 2002 Maxima. I would check the general maxima discussions forum, get the VIN and use the free carfax to check on that car's history. If everything checks out ok on carfax, then your Mom should save 13g, forget the Jeep, and get the Maxima. IMO if I had 25g budget for a car or suv the Jeep GC is not the way to go.

That's a very good price, what are the options? Heck, at that price you could get a prof' paint job and still be ahead, car is worth about 17k depending on options. Makes you wonder why so cheap?

for some reason TX people get real good deals on cars.... man if mine was 12k i would of taken it in a heart beat. thats a steal, take it. nissans are great cars in general, great value and cheap too. no cars are perfect but my maxima is pretty damn close when it comes to mecahnical problems. well i only have 28k. but from what i have seen and reading from this site, no real major problems, unless you have an auto. if your getting a 6-speed you shouldnt have a problem.

Did you point out the skyrocketing price for gas? Granted the Max doesn't get the best MPG, but certainly better than a big old SUV.

If the Maxima has no Bose system, that's actually a GOOD thing. The "premium" 6cd Bose system is the biggest pile of steaming crap in the automotive audio world.

12 grand is the right price for a bare-bone 5.5 gen. I bet the selling dealership is a small used-car lot, larger dealership would have marked it up some more. Tell your mom that one fill up in GC will cost her $55, and in Maxima $35. There's a big difference between paying 25K and 12K for a vehicle.

In March I purchased a 2k2 SE auto with 56k miles from a Cadillac dealership in California.
No leather, sunroof, and climate control. The dealership provided a free CarFax and it checked out fine. The car was registered in California only and was in excellent condition. I paid $12,500......

Oh well, i'm sure you're gonna enjoy the Jeep. I love mine. I'm assuming it's got at least a V8 in it. The 6 cyl isn't enough for that car.

Non 4WD?!? Those don't even exist up here in Chicago. I guess it's not really necessary in TX.

You should see how quick the V8 gets to 90.

I am looking at a 2002 SE 6 speed. It is charcoal with light grey interior. Private seller wants $13,000. 50,700 miles. Options are Leather, Sun Roof, Bose, LoJack. One owner. There is a little damage to the right rear door trim (the trim in the middle of the door) but i figured that i could get that painted for cheap. Also one of the fog light lenses is cracked. I saw you guys post about checking a free carfax....how would I do that? I was ready to buy a carfax report. I am also going to get the car inspected by a mechanic that is a family friend. I value the independent opinion. I would appreciate some feedback on this car.

Thanks,
Brandon

Tell her to buy the maxima and get a $3000 paint job that she will love in whatever color she likes.....

Jeeps are teh

Think about it - $15,000 for the maxima with a paintjob (that your mom likes)....

or

- a ****ty ol' Jeep that no one likes cause it's the worst american car in the world.
