Timing Advanced at Infiniti Dealership?

Just out of curiosity, has anyone had the timing advanced at an Infiniti dealership? I just spoke with a friend of mine who is the service dept manager at Sewell Infiniti in Dallas and he says that he can not tweak Nissan comps, only Infinitis....even with the Consult 2. Any help would be appreciated so I can still get it done for free there instead of having to take it to a Nissan stealer.

that's weird...i dont remember who, but someone mentioned that they always went to the infiniti dealers to get their max serviced, rather than going to a nissan dealer...that sounds a bit wrong to me...the I35 and max are the same exact car so why would it be any different advancing the timing on an I35 and a max?

Possible explanation #1:It's not that they can't; they won't....a lot of Nissan/Infiniti stealerships must have some unwritten argeement or cooperation with each other that prevents a Nissan tech to do service to an Infiniti vehicle or vice-versa. I have an Infiniti G20 and the people at the Nissan dealers flat out refuse to sell me any of the basics engine parts like the cap, rotor or even spark plugs event though the G20 and Nissan Sentra SE-R/200SX SE-R share the same engine.

Possible explanation #2:Some Infiniti/Nissan techs are clueless about the cars they service. Some will flat out tell you that the VQ35DE in the I35/G35/FX35/M35 is totally different from the VQ35DE in 6th-Gen Max, Altima 3.5SE, Murano, Quest and other Nissan vehicles.

I think your reason #2 is really why this happens...whenever i have to get my car serviced, i feel like im teaching the techs. something...because i have to explain what's wrong and they sit there and nod their heads and wait for me to suggest how to fix it...does anybody know if they have to go through any TRAINING before becoming a service advisor? it just seems like every time i go they have absolutely no clue what they are doing or talking about... ugh...

Ya, I think it is all bull****. What sucks is that this guy is a family friend and is still giving me the runaround.

Good question. If someone on this forum is a Nissan/Infiniti service tech/adviser maybe they can chime in.

He may be a "family friend", but he still has to report to his supervisor.......

I have as much confidence in getting my Maxima serviced at a Ford dealership as I do with a Nissan dealership.

The local Nissan dealer in Budweis won’t even look at my Maxima because it’s not European model. They sell I30 as Maxima and they tell me that it is completely different car. I can’t even order parts from them. Thanks for the Internet!

Well, I am stopping by Sewell next Thursday to get my personal test drive of the new M45 and while I am there I may just seek out Chris and tell him what you all have said (which I pretty much knew anyway). Then since I am there he will probably just go ahead and do it.

I just advanced 15 Maximas today We just got done with everyones timing advance- for everyones info- all 3.5Ls come retarded to 14 degrees from the factory, I will let the people who got theirs advanced today by me to 17 chime in and let them speak of the results. 3.0L 5th gens where all at 15 deg.

I belive I already said this time and time again- Consult 2 does ALL Nissan vehicles, it don't matter if the car is a Nissan Micra, Or Nissan President or a Maxima, they can ALL be worked on using the Consult 2 scan tool. The new Consult 5 is coming out very soon, its going to be killer. Nissan has Consult 2 and 3 but they are just slight variations of the Consult 2 with little features that most techs never use anyways so most dealers just stick to the Consult 2.

Most Nissan techs, are parts repleacers. They know what each check engine light means from trial and error, they know how to do 30K services, change injectors, and brake pads. Let them loose on a car like a Q45 and they will have NO clue as to WTF they should do. I would love to work at Infiniti, if there was a dealer who would pay me enough $$$ I would quit Acura on the spot- why ? Cause of my passion for Nissan vehicles.

So the majority of the vehicles you advanced today were all only to 17? I was thinking about advancing my 01 to 18, but wasn't sure if there would be enough benefit to go past 17.

No real benefit or change past 17, I stated this before. I had the timing done a while ago. I belive I made 15 people happy- I think they gonna post results of the timing soon. We have a BBQ in a hour here- all Nissan meet and I will ask them how it feels.
