Please Help! Weird Scratching Noise Coming From Car!

Hey guys, I have a 2000 SE with around 67K. After I got off work, I started to drive my car and heard this weird scratching, grinding noise in the front. It sounds like a broken meat cutter with weird scratching noise. I thought something might be stuck under the car, in between the wheels, or inside the engine. My friend and I checked everywhere and found nothing.

The weird thing is, the sound starts when I accelerate and drive. When I come to a complete stop, the sound goes away. Also, when I leave the car in PARK, and accelerate, the sound isn't there. It only happens when I am in motion.

There seems to be absolutely nothing wrong with the car. It drives smoothly as it always does, not a slight difference. It's just this werid grinding noise.

My friend thinks that the sound is coming from the engine. I think that the sound is coming from underneath the car. Not exactly sure where it is. It's defnitely somewhere in the front though.

Luckily my girl has her car, so she can drive me around for the time being. My LAST RESORT is to take it to the Nissan Dealership and pay them $100 for diagnostics just to check what it is, but if I have to, I will.

I'm begging you guys, has anyone ever had this kind of experience with this sound? I have done no modifications on this car whatsoever, basically driving it bone stock. I have changed the mAF, o2, ignition coils, the basic Max problems, and my car has been running well for a while. Now I have this problem.

Any help is GREATLY welcomed. Thanks to all of you who read this long post. I appreciate it.

From: Auburn WA,
Does it go away when you hit the brakes? If so its the wear sensor on your brake pads. I know you said you and your friend checked it out but did you lift it up and take off the wheels? Look close at the axles and brakes, jack the car up and spin the wheel, maby jack both front tires up and run the car it should be easy to diagnose. Whatever you do don't go the the dealer and spen $100 dollers for them to do what I just told you to try, go to an independent shop and they will most likely inspect it for free (my shop would). It's deffinately somewhere in the drivetrane or brakes wich only goes fron the tranny to your wheels maby even bearings. Good luck with it

Hey thanks a lot! I actually didn't take my wheel out, but i'll try that today. My friend said that it's the timing chain, but i doubt it...

From: Auburn WA,
If it were the timing chain then it would always do it and not just when you were accelerating.
