Blown A/T #2. Thinking of VB mod since powertrain warranty about to go. Thoughts?

Hey all,

As the title says my trans has $hat on itself for a second time. See below for first blown trans.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=284626

I had the tell-tale signs of a slipping trans, car started out in a 3rd or 4th gear, in neutral gear the car would stay still. Delayed shifts. I at least had my reverse gear. 54000 miles, argh!

Took it to a specific Nissan dealer in Chicagoland, an Org member's dad works there as a tech. They checked it out, trans has failed again, warrantying a replacement. This is pretty annoying, but at least it's still within powertrain warranty (60K miles), and plus the new OEM trans I had installed 14 months ago still had some sort of warranty...I should have the car back next week.

Since I plan on keeping the Max for another couple years, and I don't want to deal with another blown trans, what do you guys think of the VB mod? I've been told its the way to go, and in driving another 5.5th gen 4AT with VB mod it felt reassuring the way the trans shifts (click) into next gear decisively.

Does VB mod do anything to preserve the life of the trans? Any blown trans even with the VB mod? Word of advice??

Thanks.

I had a slipping 1-2, and read on the TSB's and they suggest to replace the VB, and I had done a little research and noticed that the people here that had done that with a factory repalcement noticed that it did not work any better than the slipping unit. So I went with a stage II and have never looked back, makes 1-2 chirp ... You'll enjoy it.

I know it like a script, no WOT for first 500 mile break in period for trans. I'm even debating letting my girl drive it for the first month or so, and I can putter around in her Cavalier. I know once I hit 500 I'd probably let it rip.

What is the difference between Stage 1 and stage 2 VB mod? I dont want a shift hard enough it rattles my fillings, but I do want to know the trans is going to stay together.

Fine Auto Trans' Nissan makes I tell ya. LOL.

Yo get that 6 speed from Mike(blackbird) and do a swap, cause what if your tranny blows and no warranty oh man, unless ofcourse your waiting for that and then you'll do the swap. Hey just out of curiousity has anyone with a 2k2-2k3 done the auto to 6speed swap? Any ways go with the stage 2, i'm waiting for my automagic to go so i can drop in the 5speed, and then woo hooo

Too late, the dealer already ordered the 4A. I wonder how much the part difference would be between a 4A and a 5A. I have heard the 5A is just built better, I dunno...
