GT-R in 2003!
I was reading car and driver this weekend and noticed an article that showed the new Altima and then below that article it said that nissan is planning on bringing the GT-R to the US in 2003.
Is this old news...am I slow or something? Wouldn't this kill their Z sales? I wonder what type of price range they are looking for. The Z: 30K, the GT-R: 40K. I don't think there is a big enough market out there for such a fast 2 door. The people that spend a lot of money on a sports car would rather get a corvette, porche, or a bmw.

Well when you think about it...
Nissan is trying to target two different markets. Or at least they'd better be, since it looks like they'll only have two sports cars. The version of the GT-R that we get will probably cost a tad more than $40k, just MHO. The Z will also be under $30k. It's been rumored to be badged as an Infiniti, which would make sense, considering there's currently no sports car in their lineup[Who misses the M30?
]. The obligatory sound deadening and techno-overloading would make it more of a luxury sports car, akin to the Lexus SC430, Merc CL, or the upcoming BMW 6-series although it should be faster than the droptop Lexus. An AMG CL55 would probably hand the GT-R it's hiney, tho.
Think of how Chevrolet markets the Camaro and the 'Vette. They don't really interfere with each other that much, even though they are barely separated by 40hp and $15k. Hopefully Nissan will take some cues from them and do it right. There's traditional enthusiasts out there, buyers who want a Z and nothing else, so they'll go get one. The GT-R will probably be for the people who want to try something a little different, and those who have actually heard of the legacy of the 'King of Japanese Sports Cars.'

dude...the first one is a prototype 3d rendering... i was the person who brought it to the forums!!! so...the second is a piece of crap that's completely fake. The real design is different from the prototypes ya know, so don't expect that car when it comes out.
