What should i offer
I totalled my 02 maxima se over the weekend and now the search is on for a new one....I owned my car and it had 40,000 miles on it....I am looking for a 6 speed and between Mass/NH there seems to be quite a few which surprised me....My question is i found this one in NH, but the price seems kinda high, but the miles are very very low....http://www.automart.com/vehicledetail/adid-15756871

Based on other posts I've seen the price seems reasonable, particularly given the mileage. One drawback is the car doesn't have leather upholstery, which I consider a must. If you're not fussed about that and given its not a private sale, offer say $17,000 to $17,500 and see what they say.
Don't tell them you smacked up your 02 Maxima and act like you're just kicking the tires. If they counter, do the head for the door routine and tell them you'll have to think about it or counter back on the way out. There is an art to buying a car, whether it be a new one or a used one and it helps to know how to play the game.

The ad states the mileage is 16,460, which means the car is virtually new. I did a search. The MSRP of a loaded 2003SE, including leather, was almost $30K. I'm assuming thats automatic and am not sure if a 6-speed is more or less than an automatic. So the sticker price of the car in question was likely at least $28K. Anywhere between $16,500 and $17,500 would probably be a pretty good price.
I am also hard pressed to believe you paid $21K for a new 2002. Was it a plain jane GXE with no sunroof, leather, CD player etc. etc?

And yes i did pay 21,000 new in 2002 for se only option was sunroof.... Car was auto not 6 speed. I was selling my motorcycle at the time and the salesman was interested so that's why i got a good deal...I think 17,500 will be a good price....

Offer 15,000 low ball them it doesn't hurt, what if you offer them 16,500 and they are like ok, then you will be kicking yourself in the #$% for not offering less. I worked at a dealership for 7 years and they usually bump the car 2,500-3,000 over what they own it for, some dealers will take short deals to hit goals for bonus money. ALWAYS BUY A CAR AT THE END OF THE MONTH!!!!!!

i paid 17,900 for my SE 03 6-speed. I bought it in january with 33k miles on it so i still had warranty. It has sunroof, spoiler, no bose, no leather. I had been looking for a year and it was exactly what i wanted, they came down from 19,000 or so.
I work at a deaership, buy at the end of the month, most places want to hit there goal to get $$$$ bonus. Some cars are marked up almost 4 grand in our used lot!!!

Did you check out the "Want AD"vertiser. There are a couple in there that are in the area. You can use them to compair. Just remember they are private party not dealer like you are looking at. And Higher milage. Your right I was surprised to see so many 6 spds. None around when I got my auto last year.
