I'm currently looking into getting a '00-'01 Max or I30. I have a few questions about them that I'm sure any of you guys can answer...

1. What kind of gas mileage do you get in the real world?

2. Who's got the fastest N/A '00-'01 Maxima out there (1/4 mile times)?

3. What's the fastest supercharged or NOS '00-'01?

4. Have any of you had major issues with service managers about making mods to the car?

Thanks in Advance,
Johnny

BTW- I've been reading the site for about two weeks now and it seems that this is the place for Max info...glad I found it.

Welcome to the board, Johnny!

Of course you realise that you're going to have to change your username once you get yer Max. But Johnny's a cool name so you should be able to blend it with "Max" rather nicely.

Anyway, can't help you too much with the NOS questions. As for mileage, I've been getting avg. 25 mpg mostly highway driving and doing 80mph most of the time. But... I have an auto so I'm not sure what people are running with their 5-speeds.

My service manager liked my FSTB but he hasn't seen my hi-flow intake so we'll see what happens then. For the most part, I think it depends on the service manager/team. If you're cool about stuff and they like you, it may be less of an issue if you come in screaming about this and that. Not to say you have to take it up the butt on stuff, just be cool as to how you go about telling them what's what.

Also, another piece of advice (who asked me anyway? )... I'd go back and delete your other post that looks alot like this one and add the appropriate (i.e. different) information to this one. There's something about double-posting up here that lends itself to light-hearted flaming.

Cheers!

About 23 (I would get more if I don't stomp on my gas so often).

2. Who's got the fastest N/A '00-'01 Maxima out there (1/4 mile times)?
mingo with his stripped interior is the fastest auto (15.33). MadMax2k is the fastest 5 spd (14.3?).

MY 4DSC

4. Have any of you had major issues with service managers about making mods to the car?
Search around and you'll find plenty of info... most of us have had problems regardless.

Thanks in Advance,
Johnny

Hope we can persuade you to buy a Max.

I'd hold off if you can...

The '02 Max will have a 3.5L 260HP V6 vs. the current 3.0L 222HP (or 227HP Anniversary Edition)

The '02 Altima will have an available 3.5L 240HP V6 and will move up in size to compete with the Accord, Camry, an Passat.

If I were you, I'd wait until the 2002's come out if you can. Then you can pickup a much more powerful Max or the next-gen Altima, or get a 00-01 Max at a much cheaper price because I think at least in the short term the 00-01 Max's are going to depreciate rather sharply because of all this.

They're also renaming the I30 to I35 to reflect the larger engine (it's getting the 3.5 too) and the I35 will supposedly have 275+HP.

So wait if you possibly can. You could get a new '02 "whatever" and win, or at that same time get a much cheaper '00-01.

If it's true that the '02 Max is getting the 3.5L V6, I might consider one. Then you might be seeing me hang around here more often.

I would wait too...

I have an auto SE and get a little over 20 on 93 octane with mostly freeway driving, but I drive around 80, so I could be more economical if I wanted.

Drove a 5 Speed Max yesterday....

And that brings up another question or two. The one I drove was a GLE? (really lacking options, no leather, no CD, No sunroof, etc.).

Do the SE's handle better than the GLE's (or whatever it was I drove, I know it wasnt an SE)? I would think so becuase of the 17" wheels and tires but is the suspension any different?

Do the SE's with 5 speeds have a different shifter ****?

Is the a short throw aftermarket shifter (I found the stock one to be not-so-conducive for banging gears)?

Does anybody have any pictures of the redesigned '02 model?

Thanks guys,
Johnny

Yes, the SE's have better handling, slightly stiffer rear springs and the 17" wheels help too.

No.. unless it is an AE

Yes, see the sticky parts list thread.

None of the max but you can see the SE-R Sentra, Z and Altima at http://www.freshalloy.com or http://www.nissandriven.com.

That was a GXE you were driving, the GLEs are almost loaded.

Ok...

I think it was a GXE come to think of it. I think the GLE's they had did have leather in them. Do the GLE's have the cool gauge faces like the SE's do? Or are they the plain black ones like the GXE?

Also, what are your insurance rates like on these? I'm only 22, so my insurance hasn't dropped much yet.

Only the SEs and AEs get the titanium gauges. Also, GLEs are NOT available at all with a 5 spd.

I'm 22 as well I pay ~160/month with allstate and a clean driving record. There are huge threads about insurance rates, use the search function to look them up.
