Short Throw Shifter

Short Throw Shifter
I have an 02 Max and thinking of getting a short throw shifter. I
wanted to know if the shift rod (the part that is attached to the shift
****) is simply shorter than a stock setup and that is the only
difference?

This may help you understand how a short throw shifter works:

No, a shorter rod doesn't make it a STS.

No, a STS will shorten the length of your shift throws not the actual length of the shifter stalk. I know someone here with an 02 has actually cut down the shifter stalk but that is the only way to do it. Seems like to much hassle to me. I have the HPA STS and it is awesome. Def the best mod yet for me.

I don't mind the long throw. I'd like to feel the short throw before doing this mod. I also read that it can hurt your synchros but I think that is because people are shifting harder with the shorter throw.
