No...

Machines are for whimps- I stick the front (toward headlight) of one tire with a pin (note height and location) I measure to the opposite tire (note height and location repectfully). I then rotate (backup) so the tire is 180 degree or the pin location is to the rear and take that measurement. The difference is my Toe. Camber I measure with a plumb line from true center.

This works and saves me $80- I've used guys with machines and have found my method equally if not better depending on the skill of whichever technician is working on my car that day.

Do you know the values?

Johns the man...

Thanks John,

I have a question...

re: 225 55 17"
front.................0.10........................ ......1.0 to 0.20

My calculations said that the diferrence was a toe in of 1/2 inch. Are those numbers above 1.0-.20 inches? Does 1/2" sound about right? The old tires were wore to **** on the outside but I since replaced the worn struts (one blown) with new KYB's. She's got 75k.

note that camber, toe, and alignment are NOT adjustable on the rear axle wheels...

On the front, camber is not adjustable unless you are using camber bolts or camber plates.

Basically, the only thing you can adjust is alignment and toe.

by the way (in case you're not aware), 225/55/17 is not the stock tire diameter for the 5th gen maxima (though it's probably still in spec). 225/50/17 is stock.

Okay, so---

If I am reading the above correctly- Toe is all I can adjust..mine is Toed in 1/2" and the tolerance is 0-2", then I am within spec. I am not using any cam bolts unless they came stock so there is no adjustment. So can I attribute my tire wear to the bad struts and call it a day?

I APPRECIATE EVERYONES EXPERT HELP-- THANKS AGAIN!!! (;

Answer...

I run between 32-35psi. The outside was getting worn prety good- running the Falken 512's nice tire not great wear.

So as long as it is toed in- the only wear should be on the inside- is this correct? It could have just been my ****ty stock stuts.

NO! The tolerance is in MILLIMETERS, not INCHES!!!!!!

minimum 0
nominal 1 MM (0.04")
maximum 2 MM (0.08")

1/2" off is waaayyyyy out of spec!

whoever said inches needs to practice reading their FSM.

Remember, this is a Japanese car, so everything is metric....

your total front toe should be around 0" to much toe in will cause a saw tooth pattern on your tire

Hmmm

Okay so if I am out of spec- how do I adjust the Toe so it is less towed in? I tried loosening the bolts on the tie rods once and that wasn't happening those $^%$r's are on there good.
