Update on TB Cleaning & CEL
About 2 weeks ago I cleaned my TB with the car running and manhandled the butterfly in the process. My CEL went on and even after clearing the ECU, etc. the light stayed on. I decided to change out my plugs and had to pull the intake off the top of the engine top do it. I cleaned the intake so it was spotless, changed the plugs and put everything back together again. Low and behold my CEL light went off. There was alot of gook in the intake but this is just strange. I

If you have an 2002, 2003 or 2004 model with a throttle body that has fly by wire, your not suppost to clean out the tb. so, i hope you don't have an 02 or newer model. if you have a cable operated tb then it is possible that you may have had a misfire or lean/rich incident which caused your cel to come on. all depending on how and what you used to clean the tb. it could have been anything really
I have a 2003, and I made the mistake of taking my TB off and cleaning it like some of the 2000 and 2001 owners have done. I was very careful with it. I only handled it with clean cloths, and I was very careful not to get any cleaner or other foreign materials in the wiring connector attached to the TB. After I put it back on, my car ran very roughly and it idled too high. I could not reset the idle, and neither could the dealership. I ended up paying for a TB replacement.
You can clean the throttle body. Just get throttle body cleaner and put it on a clean cloth and clean it that way> dont spray into the throttle body with the cleaner. And let it sit there for a few minutes. I have done this many of times and no problems.
