5th gen tranny stronger?

i am in need of a transmission for my 2000 se. i have heard that the 4rth gen tranny is weaker than the 5th gen tranny. i'm not sure if it's true so that's why i'm asking. the only reason i am curious is because it would make my search for a new tranny easier than just looking for a 5th gen one. anythoughts would be appriciated

Find Mike Jez, I think his name is BlackBirdVQ or something similar. He'd be able to elaborate on this...

I got a question? I just bought my 2001 Max GLE and I was wondering if the 6th gen. Max Engine and 5Speed Auto tranny would fit in my Maxima. I ask because I have a brand new 2006 3.5V6 wit tranny in my garage.

try making it to 15 posts so that you can make your own thread instead of whoring other people's threads, and go here: http://forums.maxima.org/forumdisplay.php?f=79 to do it....

but xl, my suggestion is go with what you find....if you find a low mileage 4th gen tranny, go ahead and jump on it...a lot of 4th gen 5-speeds have lasted a really long time, and if you're given the opportunity to buy a 4th gen tranny that's in good condition for a good price, don't pass it up just because the 5th gen's trannys are 'supposed' to be stronger....just my .02

Dude what yo are asking for will require so much modding, dunno if its worth it, also is the 3.5 with auto tranny if not then why go with the 5 speed? Also anything can be done, as long as it reasonable! But if you wanna drop the 3.5 in your 2001 you will need new engine mounts and new tranny mounts, new wireing, this isnt just a weekend job. i know of bolting the 6 spd to the 3.0 but not the 5 spd to the 3.5 if you decide to do it let us know GOOD LUCK TO YA

i really hate getting this OT, but the 5-speed he's referring to is the 5AT from the 6th gen...not the 5MT from the VQ30...

From what Mike ( Blackbirdvq) has told me the 2000 and 2001 tranny is alot stronger, also is your car a AE if it is then thats the only tranny you can get cause the AE ( aniversary edition ) maximas have different length axles, which i think is do to the hlsd, helical limited slip differential, someone correct me if im wrong/ also the AE tranny will cost ALOT more then the regular tranny, cause of the hlsd, but all in all the 5th gen definatly is stronger then a 4th gen. In my opinion this is so because the 2000 and 2001 maximas are like the perfections of all the mistakes made on the 4th gen, i mean i have a 01 automagic and i drive it like i stole and still runs great. Just my .02
