Maxima talk on Superhonda.org Accord V6 Forum

StevePake seems to think that the magazine times for the automatic's were done shifting the automatic transmission manually
MotorTrend believes that automatic transmissions have come a long way and that they can shift at more optimum points than the average driver. All of their automatic times are done with the transmission lever in "D" unless they said they manually shifted. Since I cannot active an account there, StevePake says he visits this forum so I hope he reads this.
Another guy post how similar the times are and yet he says the guy can take him. Wtf is what with that? Another guy says that the newest MotorTrend edition had the Accord V6 doing 0-60 in 7.6seconds. So what? It was not compared with the Maxima in the same issue and test site. If you look at Accord Vs Maxima times in the same issue and test, you will find that the Maxima gets similar or better times. An example would be MotorTrend 3/99 where the Accord got .1seconds faster 0-60 but the Maxima was faster in the 1/4mile. Another example would be Road and Track 5/00. The Maxima ran 0-60 in 7.8seconds while the Accord did 8.0seconds. The thing I like Road and Track is that they also post which shift points they use. They used the Accords 6,000 shiftpoints and the Maximas 6,100rpm shift points. Comsumer Reports got the Maxima to do 0-60 in 7.8seconds. They don't "brake-torque." They even gave out how the test their vehicles in one issue. They said that all they do is step on the gas pedal for automatic transmission vehicles to simulate how an average driver would launch.
I have no problem taking my bro-in-laws 00 EX V6 Coupe. Stand-start I will get him once my tach needle swings past 4,000rpms. Rolling start I will walk on him like nothing. I'm just venting. Some of these guys talk to much trash without really racing anyone.

One thing is for sure: The Maxima Auto tranny does not shift at optimal points. It shifts way to early at around 6100 rpm. Peak hp is at 6400 rpm and can only be reached when you shift manually. I have found that shifting it manually makes a significant difference. I drove a 2k V6 accord for 15k miles before getting my maxima. It shifts at redline. But even if you don't shift the maxima manually, it will be as fast, if not a bit faster than the accord. Shifting manually, the Maxima will have no problem.
I'm driving my girlfriends 2000 V6 this weekend, and I can say the Accord shifts faster (auto) than mine. It feels more "jerky" when shifting under hard acceleration. Perhaps that could make a difference over time, much like a VB mod would on a Maxima.
hehehhe

mag times and real times...
If the magazines are testing the Max autos using the "non-optimal" 6100rpm shift point, or whatever it is, and that's how they're getting thier high-15's/low-16's in the quarter then us Accord V6'ers are in trouble.
If you guys "manumatically" shift at redline - I guess 6500rpm or so, then that will give you a pretty good advantage on us. I'd believe that you could easily reach mid-15's doing that, and that would mean that the mag numbers are a bit conservative, and that they don't fully represent the Max/auto's full performance potential.
Of course, manually shifting like that also requires not bouncing off of the rev-limiter, which could hand the advantage back to us Accord V6 guys and then that throws everything back up in the air unless you've practiced and are good at manumatically shifting
But I've got to agree with UMD_MaxSE. If the mag numbers are based on the "auto shift at 6100rpm" instead of the "manual shift at redline" then you guys should have no problems pulling on Accord V6's if you manually shift.
...but that's nothing that a few mods couldn't take care of

No boxers. Thats like an ounce!! Every ounce counts! Anyone want to go to Naperville, IL and check this guys car out? I'm thinking that he scraped off the paint on his car to save some more weight.
