first is the width of the tire in MM. the second is the profile, which is derived from the width of the tire (first number). The profile (2nd number) is a percentage of the width. HOWEVER, for some reason, on multiple occasions, I've seen tires of the same size with different sidewall sizes, AND i've seen a 215/50/17 look taller than 225/50/17 (our stock size). so i guess the type of tire and manufacturing has to do with that too, but in general those numbers are standard.

For 19x8 and 19x8.5 wheels, most guys are running 245/35/19 (including myself).

Thanks for the advice guys but I have another question. I'm buying 20x8.5 rims with a 35 offset, tirerack recommends a 245/30/20 tire which I think is a problem. I was thinking about buying the tires off the 300 SRT8 which has Goodyear F1's that are 245/45/20 in the front and 255/45/20 in the rears. I want the thickest(height) tread possible to avoid the bent rim syndrome, if I get these tires will I rub the wheels?

I've been running that tire size and my car lowered on Maxspeeds for over 1.5 yrs and it hasn't rubbed one time. I'm now on Tokico Blues w/Maxspeeds and it hasn't rubbed since installed.

I was riding on 19' Axis Crux with 245x35x19 with Tein S tech it doesn't rub unless I cut the wheels all the way, not many pple will know that cuz u can't see the inside of ur fender but when I took the wheels out to get my brakes done u could def tell that it rubbs......other than that 19's like the best way to go.....also u gotta be extra careful on driving if u don't want ur wheels end up like this from running over curb......I had to choose to run over curb or my other option was to hit the Bus......

sorry fo the terrible pix......hope this will help u becareful driving after u get the wheels......but nice choice on the wheel......dang......sorry again for long a$$ post.

no chance. Those cars can fit 22's. Our cars can fit 20's. Some might say that doesn't matter but it does. The overall diameter of the Daimler-Chrysler RWD platform is about 3" larger than the pre 6th Gen Maxima.

[edit]
not, NO chance. With some modification, it could work, but not stock/no rubbing.

I'm sitting on GR2's/maxspeeds. I plan to get 15mm spacers as well.

I'm only talking about the tires. You will not be able to use the 255/45-20 inch tire. If you get the 245/30-20 You'd be alright and 245/35-20 and you might rub under heavy loads.

Hey guys, i just bought a 2001 Maxima SE a week ago, and my friend told me about this site/forum. Its really cool, anyways, by reading all your posts 19's are perfect for the max?? I was thinkin about getting 20's but i guess they will rub... if i am wrong anywhere please correct me, thanks. One more thing, i was lookin around the forums and the only Lip kits i have seen are like the Stillen one and one more, are there any more lip kits for the 5th generation max. Thanks again guys.

STFU Post in the appropriate forum .. and 20s wont rub if you use the correct size tire

There are more lip kits, but why don't you put a Y-pipe first. ..

245/45 are just a little too tall, they will most likely rub when turning, i have 245/35, and they fit perfect, my car isn't lowered though, also i am running a 20x9 wheel, but that probably doesn't make a diffence.

Thanks for the worm welcome , next time try harder so you can impress me.... Just cuz you've been on this forum since 2000 or w/e that dont mean you cant act that way. I do have respect for you cuz you know better than me but why be like that? Anyways, i aint here to argue, thanks for the advice on the Y-pipe tho. and one more thing, how bout a side wall 35 for a 20' rim? would that be alright?

Depends on the tire width .. Visit the wheel/tire forum, there's some useful information in there, or www.tirerack.com, and read the section "Tire Tech" .. it helped me .. Iw as in a bad mood, didn't realize it was your first post...

IMO 20's are on Maximas.

I have 245/35/19s on my 19s. No rubbing issues at all and I have S-tech springs.

I'm running 19x8.5's with 245/35 rubber dropped on Progress/Illuminas. No rubbing. You should be fine. Just watch out for those curbs and potholes.

That's almost 2" taller than stock .. Probably not ...
do the math

All in mm (metric)
245 x 0.4 x 2 = 196
20 x 25.4 = 508

Convert to inches
508 + 196 = 704/25.4 = 27.72" stock is 25.86"

www.tirerack.com for further information, as I stated above

doug

I have a 2002 SE dropped on H-techs(~1.5") & Tokico Illuminas running 245/35/19's(40mm offset) wrapped in Falken Azenis ST-115's and I have no rubbing issues at all. Only thing is I wish I chose a lower offset to fill in the fenders more.

The lower the number offset of the rim, the more the rim will stick out towards the fender. And the higher the offset number, the more the rim will seat inwards. As long as you stay within that tire size and stay above ~32mm offset, you will be fine.
