STS is hard to shift?

I checked out a car today with a STS [short throw shifter] installed

It actually took hard pulls to shift.

Is that normal for a short throw one? It was B&m i think..

I am used to being able to move the shifter with one finger.. not pulling on it with a decent amount of force.

Is the stock shifter "easy" like you can move with one finger? I think if I buy the car I will swap the stock one on.

Is the change possible to do without getting the car on the lift?

thanks.

short shifters come in 2 styles:

style 1. changes the fulcrum point to achieve a shorter throw but keeps the stock length

style 2. changes the fulcrum point and reduces the lenght of the shifter

the larger the distance from the fulcrum to the shifter ****, the easier it is to shift (more torque) but you have to move the shifter a farther distance

you should be able to do the install with a decent jack

My stock shifter was hard to shift. After installing the Hp Autoworks STS it did not make the shifts any easier.

the new shifter bushing from larrio and *** is suppose to help with the stiffness of the shifting.

has the crossover linkage been adjusted recently? (left to right not front to back)

I only know that when I installed my STS in my '02 I disconnected the adjustment for the x-over linkage to put in the shifter base bushings. Shifting was so bad that my wrist became so inflamed that I could barely shift.
I just recently readjusted my linkage and now it shifts smooth like butter.

i took off my stillen sts because it was too nochy, now i have stock and it took me about 1.5 hours on a lift to change. i couldn't take apart the stillen so i just used a dremel and cut the stick. but i honestly hate rowing the boat with the stock.
