KYB GR2 or Tokico Blues

I'm gonna put either of these with H-Teins. Which one would be a better fit.

i have gr-2s, but not long enough to make an assessment. it would be good if we had physical stress analysis of the different struts availble for the max.
if i could do it again i would just put springs on my stock struts, then if they blew (yes they dont always fail) i would buy adjustable struts.

Blues all the way. I have yet to see the correct part number for GR2 for the 02-03 maxima.....I read somewhere that your not suppose to put the 00-01 gr2 on the 02-03 cause kyb won't warranty them as they are not the correct ones for that year.....

Go with the blues. You will be happy with the ride quality and they are designed to handle the drop. I have been very please with my blues and eibachs.

Ahhh, glad to hear about someone with the blues/eibach setup. I was thinking about this cause truth is, I don't have illumina budget, I've had them before and it was honestly a pain in the **** to change the back settings... plus I never really chaged them once set, so I can do without adjustability. How exactly is the ride quality over harsh roads?

I have this set up also and love them. A little too harsh, but I have dealt with them for four years now.

I have been running GR-2s for 2 years and 45K, they provide great ride control and handle the drop well. Ride has not deteriated either; this is a good choice!

I got 55,000 on the car, so Im guessing here, probably at least 35,000 +. Nothing seems to be wrong with them.

I had the H&Rs and the GR-2 for about 80k on my 01 I got rid of. Combined with an RSB and an FSTB the handling on that thing was so nice. On the highway you will love this setup. In the city I wouldnt go with this setup again, it was too harsh at certain times and I couldnt stand it especially with some people in the car.

I am thinking of going now with H&Rs and Illuminas on my 02...pretty expensive setup but at least I will have the option to change the stiffness.

What about Coilovers? Are those much better than springs/struts/shocks setups?

I have s tech's with the blues reasonable 50,000 miles on them good for a first set up ,but would not do it over blues are stiff and bad on the pot holes you can feel everything. I would personally go with the lluminas or do it right the first time Dampers all the way....... control what you want to feel

i believe a33's came with tokicos as OEM shocks. the general consensus is blues are slightly stiffer than stock. i'm curious as to whether they are slightly stiffer than GLE/GXE shocks or if they are indeed stiffer than stock SE shocks..

They are not alot stiffer but stiffer in a good way. The dampening ability is way better then stock so they make the ride more comfortable cause the absorb bumps better. GET BLUES!!!!!!!!! And OEM shocks are made by Tokico not KYB

I installed H-techs and GR2's about 3 months ago. I am very pleased with the handling improvement. I think they definately out perform the stock SE struts.

Didn't take long for someone to suggest that. I believe that illuminas aren't usually an option due to the Price. Yes they are great struts (had them on my last max) But I do get tired of people throwing those in as options. I'm sure if he wanted to know if they were better, he would ask. We all already know that they are God's gift to performance short of coilovers. Not everyone has the options of just "spendinging extra money to get the better option. If that were the case, then mabey we all might have "Spent the extra money and got a BMW" or whatever, etc etc... lol. Me personally, if I had enough money to throw at another set of illums. no doubt I would. But for the price conscious shopper who isn't trying to go drifting, auto xing, just looking to replace thier blown OEM struts, I think they have a right to choose lower priced non adjustables.

Off my soapbox now....

By the way, serious question to all Illum. owners, how often do you actually adjust your settings? I know once I had them set to 3/4 that was it, I never touched it again.

Well there are a couple places you can try. The groupdeal section, Automax_95 may have some. Great guy to deal with.:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=450276

importrp, also has a groupdeal going: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=435405

I would also check out ebay. And if all else fails, simply google it. Plenty of sites will pop up.
