Just thought i'd pass this along.....This is a definite confirmation regarding the power upgrade for the 2002 model year.
Dear Taki,

Thank you for contacting Nissan North America, Inc. and allowing us the
opportunity to be of assistance.

All auto manufacturers improve their product line-up from one model year to
the next. There is no perfect time to purchase any consumer product that's
constantly being upgraded and priced accordingly. The next generation Altima
that goes on sale in September '01 is a full model change that's all new
from the ground up. As we make improvements to the Altima nameplate,
likewise improvements are constantly being made to our Nissan flagship
Maxima. The '02 Maxima will feature the same basic design as the 2000/2001
models but will be more powerful than the new Altima and include more
features befitting a flagship model. These improvements for the '02 model
do not detract from the '01 models we currently sell. In fact, the current
Maxima includes features that continue to be found only on our
top-of-the-line model. Maxima heritage and its award-winning engine provide
the quality and performance Maxima buyers originally were looking for. The
Maxima is a valued brand and will continue to hold a unique and even more
exclusive position in Nissan's future line-up.

If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to e-mail
us.

Sincerely,

Maggie Maese

Since you posted it again anyway...

This part totally gets my goat:

"The '02 Maxima will feature the same basic design as the 2000/2001

top-of-the-line model."

So lemme get this straight. The 2002 has more power and more "flagship features" but doesn't detract from the '01. Sure... then I'll trade you guys for a 2002 since they're the same thing. I'll be expecting the car at my door tomorrow morning.
